It’s been a couple of years since Michael J. Fox has appeared in a small-screen role. Now it looks like the guy known for roles that involved going back in time, turning into a werewolf and a money-loving republican kid named Alex P. Keaton, is in talks for not one but two guest appearances on two TV series! If all goes well, we could be seeing Fox return to Scrubs as well as appearing in a few episodes of Rescue Me.
NBC announced that the premiere of this summer’s Office webseries will take place on Thursday, July 10th (that’s this Thursday!) at 3:00 p.m. on NBC.com. In the last webseries, the accounting people struggled to figure out where a missing sum of money went. This summers webseries will follow Kevin as he deals with some money troubles of his own.
Adobe should look into getting some Photoshop sponsorships on Fox News Channel. The internet, print, and television media is in an uproar over the doctoring of two journalists' photographs, some going as far as calling Fox's actions Anti-Semitic. Fox, of course, is claiming that it's all fair play and that they're just defending themselves from attacks by the mainstream media that they're currently leading in ratings.
Summertime is all about the webisodes. Other than binging on DVDs, watching old episodes of my favorite TV series, there’s nothing better than a good webseries to tide me over between TV seasons. As I’m a Heroes fan and it’s been more than half a year since we’ve gotten any new Heroes episodes, I’m really excited for the Heroes webisodes to begin airing.
Kate says the sextuplets didn’t want the fancy carnival birthday party they had last year. She insists they told her they wanted a family birthday instead. Oh I really want to believe her, really I do! I like Kate. She’s candid and funny and quirky too with all her germ and mess phobias.
It looks like Jamie-Lynn Sigler is returning to HBO. According to E! Online’s Kristin Dos Santos, Sigler, who is well known for her role as Meadow Soprano in The Sopranos, is set to guest star on Entourage for a three episode arc. Sigler will be playing herself and will be a potential love interest for one of the guys.
Harris might be widely known for his role as neo-yuppie, Barney on How I Met Your Mother but many of us remember when he played the adorable kid-genius, Doogie Howser, MD. Harris hasn’t forgotten his roots either and he’s using his former fake-doctorness to promote Old Spice.
I’m guessing that among the many (many, many) Batman fans who are counting down the days to the premiere of The Dark Knight, there are two general groups: Those who are trying to avoid even the tiniest spoilers related to TDK and those who are dead set on absorbing every bit of Batman-related news they can feast their eyes on in anticipation of the premiere. If you’re of the latter group, these specials will probably do the trick.
Jay Karnes, who plays Detective "Dutch" Wagenbach on The Shield, is jumping over to a new show on FX. Karnes is set to join Shield writer-executive producer Kurt Sutter in a recurring role on his new drama, Sons of Anarchy.
During the week of July 11-20, cable/sattelite network ReelzChannel will be preparing us for the release of the most anticipated movie of the year- The Dark Knight. For 10 days, ReelzChannel TV and their website, Reelzchannel.com, will provide us all with a masters-level education on the Batman franchise with interviews, retrospectives, trivia, production notes, and much more.
I’m a sympathy crier. Oftentimes if I see someone else really crying, I cry too. This happens on occasion when watching a TV show or movie. In those cases though, the actor crying has to really sell it in order for me to well up. Such was the case in tonight’s episode of Army Wives, when Dan Lauria’s character teared up during his best friend’s funeral.
I’ve heard quite a few complaints about the lack of Rescue Me this summer. Unfortunately, the popular FX series won’t be returning with new episodes until next year. Rescue Me’s absence only adds to the severe shortage of watchable drama series this summer. On the bright side, FX has started airing Rescue Me minisodes.
Ok, initially the premise of this show sounded cruel to me. I haven’t seen any of the previous episodes but the idea of setting out to genuinely scare someone just seems kind of mean. Then again, I assume the friends and loved ones who are responsible for volunteering the victim probably wouldn’t do it if they didn’t think the person would have a sense of humor about it, right?
Like with all comedy though, some of it is going to appeal to some people while not-so-much for others. This will probably be the case for viewers of Martin Lawrence Presents. Some people with less discriminating senses of humor will probably find every act laugh-worthy but even if you’re a bit pickier about your comedy, there’s sure to be at least a few acts that’ll get you laughing.
I didn’t even know Curb Your Enthusiasm was still airing new episodes. I suppose that just goes to show how up on am on HBO’s series. Steve Carrell, Alec Baldwin, and Tony Shalhoub were all on the ballot last year. I’d love to see Carrell actually win this year, but I wouldn’t be disappointed if Alec Baldwin took it. I guess we’ll have to wait and see whether either of them get nominations first.
While the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences was kind enough to post the top top ten drama and comedy series in consideration for Emmy nominations this year, they haven’t been as generous with the other categories. Thanks to some investigative work from The LA Times’ Gold Derby Blog, here is the list for the Top 10 Semifinalists for Best Drama Actor
People say there’s nothing good on TV in the summertime. I say that’s a load of hogwash (yes, I said “hogwash.”) Ok, sure, many of the must-watch series are on hiatus right now. Even Battlestar Galactica, which premiered in April is on break, leaving geeks like me to count down the days to the unknown date when it’ll return with the second half of the final season.
Luke Perry hasn’t exactly disappeared off the face of the earth since Beverly Hills, 90210 wrapped up its final season. He appeared in numerous episodes of HBO’s Oz and returned to the network for John From Cincinnati last year. Would he be willing to make an appearance on The CW’s 90210? It doesn’t look likely.
The premise that a spy would use his training to work as a private eye gives Burn Notice a vaguely noirish feel. Donovan’s Westin gives authoritative voiceovers explaining the best way to approach a situation. But it never feels like you’re being instructed on how to make a bomb, or rig a booby trap. The show does a great job of using homemade spy gadgetry to move the characters and story along
The premise that a spy would use his training to work as a private eye gives Burn Notice a vaguely noirish feel. The downside to Napoleon and Tabitha serving as guest judges last night meant we were denied the pleasure of getting to see one of their fantastic hip hop routines performed by the contestants. On the bright side, we did get a really cool Broadway-style group performance at the start of tonight’s results episode courtesy of Tyce Diorio. Am I the only one who hears “Tasty Oreo” when Cat pronounces Diorio’s name? Maybe it’s the accent. Anyway…
It’s no real shock that CBS has the oldest viewers and equally unsurprising that How I Met Your Mother is one of the few shows that actually draws in a moderately younger crowd (median age: 45) on that network. So what are all the young people doing while the older folks are off watching Cold Case and Ghost Whisperer? Are they outside playing? Chasing a hoop down a dirt road or something? Possible but unlikely.
On tonight’s episode of So You Think You Can Dance, rather than cutting things down to a clean hour or at most, an hour and a half, they kept the show at two hours and let each couple dance two songs. I guess this is a good thing for the dancers because they get a second chance to show off their moves and hopefully win people over. But I think I’d prefer if they’d wait until it got down to five couples to do this.
Originally both Tori Spelling and Jennie Garth were set to appear in the new 90210 spinoff series on The CW but now it looks as like Tori is out. Bad news for Spelling fans but if you’ve always been partial to brunettes, you’ll be happy to know that there’s a good possibility that Shannen Doherty might be appearing in the show.
Ok, I know a lot of you have been waiting to find out when and where Randy, Paula and Simon will scouting out the next crop of American Idol hopefuls. Fortunately, Fox finally posted the information! For those of you interested in trying to show America that you're the next American Idol, the auditions begin in San Francisco in mid-July.
Neal McDonough is moving to Wisteria Lane. ”The former Boomtown star will be joining the cast of Desperate Housewives this fall as a new addition to the neighborhood who could become more suit-clad prey for Nicollette Sheridan's man-eater Edie Britt” , reports Yahoo News.
Petrozza and Christina meet with the restaurant designers. While Christina has a very straightforward idea of what she wants, Petrozza is like Julia Roberts planning her wedding in Steel Magnolias. While the words “blush” and “bashful” never actually come out of his mouth, the man does go crazy for flowers. He basically wants his tables covered in them.
Watching Arrested Development in its entirety from series pilot to series finale has been on my To Do list for a while now. I’ve finally nearly completed that goal as I’m on the last disc of season three. Since I fell in love with the series about halfway through the first disc of season 1, I’m slowing down on my A.D marathon so I can savor what’s left of the series.
When I think of Aidan Quinn, the first thing that pops into my head are those blue eyes, and I’m not even a blue-eye-kind-of-gal. The next thing is Legends of the Fall. I loved that movie. I do not think of him as being on TV, but if you check him out on IMDB.com you will find, as I did, that he’s appeared on the tube quite a bit.
The new season of Burn Notice is set to premiere next week and I’m doubly excited because not only are we getting new episodes of Burn Notice, but BSG star Tricia Helfer is going to be in the show! Yay! And there’s more good news (since the Helfer thing is hardly new-news): we’re giving away free stuff! Burn Notice takes place in sunny Miami, so we’ve got some beach-themed prizes for two lucky fans.
With the success of the new Incredible Hulk movie, I’m sure many of you have wondered where did the villain, played by Tim Roth, come from? I seem to remember he’s been in something before… Oh yes, he won an Oscar for his role in Rob Roy. But, after his turn as the Bellhop in Four Rooms and the evil Thade in Planet of the Apes, he kind of disappeared. At least it seemed that way to me.
The new season of Stargate Atlantis is set to include a few landmark moments: not the least of which is the show’s 100th episode. The Stargate universe surprised many people when SG-1 became a decade long success story for the Sci Fi Network
Yeah, it looks fairly touchy-feely and the title is entirely too long (seriously, can we just start calling this show Secret Life or “that show about the pregnant teenager”?) but I think the premise has potential. Rather than creating a normal family drama and then eventually having one of the kids get pregnant, why not get right to it and start the series out that way?
Jason Schwartzman scores the lead in a new HBO series, Bored to Death. I'm guessing clever is going to be the best word to describe it. I Heart Huckabees was a weird movie. I mean weird. But, it was the first time I saw Jason Schwartzman in a film, and I finished the movie just because I loved him to death.
At the start of tonight’s episode of Army Wives I thought this installment was going to be a total downer. As was hinted in last week’s previews, Trevor got shot. Meanwhile, Michael looked miserable and Joan was puking all over the place, and snapping at Roland. Strangely enough though, this episode turned out to be surprisingly uplifting.
It looks like CBS is gearing up for a busy fall season. Based on their season and series premiere schedule, the fall season will officially start for the Eye with the premiere of Survivor: Gabon on September 18th. Following that, they’ll bring back their Monday comedy line-up with the premieres of The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, Two and a Half Men and one of their new series, Worst Week.
Today the Television Academy of Arts and Sciences posted the short list for the Emmy nominations for Best Drama and Best Comedy series. The list includes the top ten vote-getters for each category and this weekend, screenings will take place to decide which shows actually make it on to the official nomination ballot.
I’m a giant Law & Order fan. I go back and forth on which iteration is my favorite, but Criminal Intent has definitely taken the top spot more than once. So when I saw the news that Chris Noth is leaving the series (again) at the end of this season, I was pretty bummed out. The only thing that saved this news from being completely depressing is finding out who’s going to be replacing the erstwhile Detective Logan: Jeff Goldblum.
I’m not sure what to make of this show. The promo hints that there will be some funny dancers as well as some dancers who are really good. Considering it’s airing on Friday night, I think it’s a good move to make this series more like a game show than an ongoing competition. This looks like the kind of show that will be fun to watch on a once-in-a-while basis but I can’t see myself getting hooked on it.
Tonight’s episode of So You Think You Can Dance opened with what had to be one of the strangest group performances I’ve seen in a long time. This isn’t a criticism as I wasn’t able to tear my eyes away the routine, which was put together by contemporary choreographer Mia Michaels. This explains why she didn’t work with any dancers on their performances last night. She was too busy creating a creepy-sheik number for the whole lot of them.
