When his love for swimming drove him to rebuild the center, he recruited the kids in the area and started the city's first African-American swim team. Ellis coached the inner-city kids and gave them confidence and respect, something they had never had. However, when racism and violence threatened to tear the team apart, he had to convince them they can overcome it. The film also stars Bernie Mac and Tom Arnold.
