From the Macintosh to the Wii there have been some great Star Wars video games, and this list names the ten best of all time.
United Kingdom - Call of Duty: World at War takes the top spot for the third week in a row in the UK according to Chart-Track. FIFA 09 and Mario Kart Wii both slip one slot to make way for a two-spot climb by NFS: Undercover.
Guitar Hero: World Tour makes another appearance in the top 10, and bringing in the rear is the debut of Resistance 2, and according to GfK Chart-Track, matches only approximately 66% of the original's launch week.
"Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat, please put a penny in the Gates man's hat…"
Yup, that's right folks. It's time for gaming hardware and software companies and their online and high street retailers to start the traditional pre-Xmas price-cutting game, with some rather spectacular credit-crunch-friendly bargains on offer this year.
TechRadar gave you our definitive guide to getting the best Xbox 360 and Wii bargains this week. And it seems that Sony isn't going to take part in the latest round of price cuts, preferring to wait until Easter 2009 before hacking back the RRP of PS3. (Based on information leaked from an SCEE employee which the company was also quick to deny…)
If you're extra lucky you'll manage to nab a new Jasper-based 360, which means you should no longer have any 'red ring of death' worries as you are thirty hours into Gears 2.
Somewhat strangely, Nintendo seems to be jumping aboard the electronic book bandwagon, releasing a collection of a hundred modern classics on the DS on Boxing Day this year. Funny day to launch what seems to be a perfect stocking filler, but hey, who are we to get all 'marketing made simple' on their Japanese asses?...
U.S. sales of video game hardware, software, and accessories surged 36% in the first half of the year to $8.27 billion. That even outpaces the $6.1 billion grossed over the same period in 2007, which was a record year for the industry.
Analyst also predicts that Wii software will outpace rivals in 2008.
It's common knowledge that Nintendo is the only current platform holder to have made a profit from its hardware from the off, and now a number has been put on that - $6.
A report on Forbes reveals each Wii unit brings in an operating profit of $6 for Nintendo, according to David Gibson, an analyst at Macquarie Securities. By comparison, Sony loses money on each PlayStation sold, while Microsoft is currently able to break even.
It's not really surprising that game sequels sell better than new intellectual properties. Didn't expect it to be this lopsided, though: seven of the eight best-selling games in the past twelve months have been sequels.
Japan - The seismic effects of market shifts and economic gloom in combination with a rather short release list have made a significant impact for Square Enix. In 2007, twenty-two releases spread across five systems (DS, PSP, PS2, Wii, 360) added up to a shockingly huge 6.4 million units sold.
In contrast, Square Enix's 2008 effort of ten releases across four systems (DS, PSP, Wii, 360) resulted in a far lesser 1.7 million units sold.* This is a 4.5 million unit difference and is a eye-popping 73.81% decline from 2007.

Ever since Sonic Adventure 2 on the Sega Dreamcast the hedgehog has suffered some pretty poor releases. Sonic fans have been hurting for a long time now with titles like "Sonic Riders" and more recently "Sonic The Hedgehog". What little good will gamers had left for the blue blur is quickly evaporating thanks to Sonic Unleashed, an otherwise decent Sonic game ruined by brawling levels that turn Sonic into a werehog combatant. So why exactly do the development team keep screwing things up exactly? David Clayman caught up with a member of the development team on Sonic Unleashed and asked them exactly this.

"Admit it. You've got an old GameCube from yesteryear laying around, and the slow economy (and fear for your life) is holding you back from running to your nearest brick-and-mortar to pick up a Classic Controller for your Wii. You know you want to play Super Mario 64 to work off that turkey, but you can't justify laying out the cash. Fret not; YouTube user marcan42 has you covered, courtesy of a PIC18F4520 microcontroller and makeshift GameCube connector, along with a chopped off Nunchuk extension cord. Of course, you could just pick up a different model, but that would be way too easy. We didn't say it was pretty, but if you're still intrigued, check the full vid after the break."
N-Europe's Nathan Whincup writes: "We've all secretly been hoping that Nintendo would finally introduce the ability for us to show off our registered VIP Star codes to internet strangers for a while now, and it looks like our prayers have finally been answered.
"My Public Profile" allows you to set a profile picture, theme and background song to make your page aesthetically pleasing for visitors who may suddenly feel the dire need to see what consoles and games you've registered, and what you've got on your gaming wishlist."
N-Europe's Nathan Whincup writes: "Sticking to what appears to be a now solid schedule for DS demos on the Nintendo Channel in Europe, a demo of Dragon Ball: Origins is now up for grabs and just waiting to be downloaded to directly to your DS for your pre-release perusal.
Origins goes back to the roots of the Dragon Ball franchise in a colourful 3D action RPG, and has garnered a lot of positive feedback since its Western debut at Leipzig back in August. The demo acts as a small introduction to battles and controls (as the game is entirely controlled via the touch screen), whilst the full game promises around 30 hours of action-packed content.
Dragon Ball: Origins is set for a release on December 5th in Europe."

Wii Speak will work on replacement Wii consoles
Animal Crossing for Wii finally hits stores early in December, with many Nintendo fans eager to try out the new Wii Speak community microphone that is used in the game.
However, as with any new Nintendo hardware, there has been little solid information released publicly prior to the launch.
Edge interviewed a Nintendo rep recently to find out more about the peripheral, with Ninty reassuring users that the Wii Speak Channel can be re-installed on a replacement Wii, should the user's Wii break or (shock! horror!) be nicked.

Japan - The PS3 and PS2 were the only platforms that didn't receive a significant boost this week as the end-of-year climb finally begins. The DS and PSP platforms are both up nearly 20k units, the 360 almost doubled last week's effort from 8k to 15.5k, and the Wii is up 10k units from the previous week.
Defying the weekly gains for every other platform, the PS3 sold only 17.4k units this week, exactly what it sold last week.
Be it on Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo or PC through 2008 we have seen many great games, but only a few influential ones that will really leave a legacy on the future of gaming. This in-depth gameplayer article details the few developers that delivered something truly worth remembering in 2008.
"Over the course of the next few pages we'll name names and point both fingers and toes. We'll put developers up on stages and bathe them in spotlights. We'll flash huge neon signs above their heads while belting out praise on megaphones, backed by a symphony choir no less. For these are the developers that really made a difference in 2008: those who we believe contributed something so extraordinary to the industry that we'll look back at them in future generations with nods of respect and glowing worship."

The final issue of NRevolution will go on sale December 11."
Edge writes: "Ubisoft again dropped hints about its online ambitions in an earnings call on Wednesday.
Asked by an analyst if the French-based firm expects any "meaningful" revenue from subscriptions or downloadable content in calendar 2009, CEO Yves Guillemot (pictured) replied, "We plan to launch at least two products, so I can't say yet what the impact of that will be. But we expect to make big launches on those two games. I don't think it will be huge, but it will be the start of a new trend that will accelerate later."
Ubisoft has made clear that it has something up its sleeve in the realm of MMOs. The company recently said that its November acquisition of World in Conflict developer Massive Entertainment is a step towards creating MMOs."

Sandwiched between Super Mario 64 and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess in the pantheon of Nintendo console launch titles, Luigi's Mansion pales in comparison. Although the Big N still sold two million copies of the game, it's frankly neither as revolutionary as Mario 64 nor as epic as Twilight Princess. Yet, IGN really does feel like Mansion is a franchise worth continuing and more specifically, enhancing -- a real possibility with the added power of the Wii console and more importantly, its unique controller. Not only that, but there's an opportunity for the publisher to simultaneously migrate the series to its handheld. Just as a port of Mario 64 launched DS, so could a portable version of Luigi's Mansion help sell DSi.

Here's Sarcastic Gamer's new parody video, "Silence Cliffy B" in all its… glory… or something.'
This is the state of Nintendo's Wii console, easily number one in monthly hardware sales and reliably dead last where the hardcore gamer is concerned. Is this an unfair criticism? IGN doesn't think so. It's not an assertion they make lightly or without ample evidence, either anecdotal or factual.
