Neocrisis: A few days ago we reported that Norwegian postal service seems to have copied the Killzone 2 logo. However it was come to our attention that Killzone 2 may have gotten inspiration from Bungie. The original logo was published in 1997, many years before Killzone 2 was even in development. The logo originated in Bungie First Person Shooter, Marathon, which was a Doom clone. Press Here to see the source. We need to thank site member slasp for this information.

It's the time of year when that raft of regular EA franchises makes its annual appearance, and of course no holiday charts would be complete without the inclusion of a Need for Speed title.

The New Xbox Experience is in the process of being deployed to all Xbox LIVE members, but it will take a few hours for everyone to get the prompt to update to NXE….be patient! In the meantime I thought I would give my Top 10 list of things to do with NXE when you get it later today:
1) Create (or Customize) your Avatar – You can spend as much (or as little) time as you want in the Avatar Editor to personalize your little guy/girl
Bonus: When you are done with #1, be sure to take a Gamer Picture of your Avatar. In the Avatar editor, choose Gamer Picture. You can use the controls to move your avatar around, zoom in and out or even change the background color (press Y)
2) Explore the all new dashboard. (hint: use the trigger and bumpers to quickly scroll up and down or left and right)
Clichés are found in everything from music to movies to anything where creativity finds a home. This is no different with the video game medium which mimics past ideas to no end. Why tamper with a formula for success? Repetition has been the basis of our great civilization, and so it comes as no surprise that there are numerous clichés in the video game medium. Some of the clichés we can do with. Some of them actually make us happy when we see them all the time. Others however are just plain annoying and we will go through these in this list. Here then are the top 10 most used clichés in video game history.

Nidzumi Writes: Cover art for a music album or possibly even a DVD is often held in the highest regard. Many covers for albums are preserved as works of art instead of simply trying to sell you a product. From large vinyl art works to smaller Digipak cases, the cover for an album is almost as important as the music it's self. Meanwhile if you look at art for the front of video games you see a different picture. Normally publishers are just trying to sell you on the product by promoting violence or by showing action shots of everything even if the game is deeper than that. The truth is that if you delve through the masses of discardable covers you can actually find some pretty interesting and great graphic work.
Negative Gamer writes:
"The paper, published in Acta Paediatrica, used 19 boys aged between 12 and 15 and told them to play one violent, and one non-violent game for 2 hours before bed. Measurements of their heartbeat and movement were measured whilst they played, and during the following night of sleep."
NG have essentially a nice translation of the report from technical talk (though the link to the report is given) into stuff we can understand.
NG conclude:
"So there you have it, violent games clearly have a different impact on the gamer, but not on the quality of their sleep. Saying that, if you want to make getting out of bed easier on a Monday morning, don't play Manhunt."

About 90 percent of U.S. kids ages 8 to 16 play video games, and they spend about 13 hours a week doing so (more if you're a boy). Now a new study suggests virtual violence in these games may make kids more aggressive in real life.

why you want to play these seven games, despite gratuitous violence and bedroom antics that are found in R-rated movies and premium cable TV. We list their cause for concern (and ways you can talk them into letting you play anyway.
What makes a game easy? How about an unlimited amount of lives? How about an unlimited amount of continues after you lost all your lives? How about a seemingly never ending amount of energy? There is something noticeable about all these traits that make a video game easy. All these traits are embodied in most new video games that are released. Gone are the days of working hard to beat a game. Sure, you could beat Contra in ½ an hour, but achieving the skill level of mastering the game took months, if not years. Today's games are long, and require no mastery to accomplish. With what seems like an unlimited amount of life for the protagonists of new games, comes a gaming disposition that is ubiquitously lazy and lacking in patience. Fight your way to the end of the game without focusing on anything specifically.

Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, God of War, Gran Turismo, Wipeout, Killzone, Resistance; the products of Team ICO, White Knight Chronicles (and products of Level-5 before they turned self-publisher), Uncharted and now LittleBigPlanet. Be it timely series or new efforts, Sony Computer Entertainment has always stayed one step ahead of its competition.
"And several steps ahead of Microsoft Game Studios."

Video games are responsible for some of the best characters out of any form of media. Even our scaly green friends have become icons. Mtv has posted a blog on their gaming website that identifies the best of these characters. So which of them has won your heart over the years? Head on over to their website to see if your favorite made the cut.
1UP writes: "A long time ago -- 30 years to be precise -- in a Mann's Chinese Theatre far, far away, a hokey B movie called Star Wars debuted and changed motion picture history forever. And for 25 of those 30 years, LucasArts and others have been producing games based on the phenomenon it inspired.
In that time, we've seen a lot of repetition; how many times can we fly through the Battle of Hoth, anyway? And we've seen a lot of junk games, too. But just as often, the games bearing the Star Wars name have been a brilliant success. Whether they work by simply tapping into our nostalgic fondness for the films in a clever way or simply stand on their own merits, the best Star Wars games stand the test of time."
See for yourself just how much the visuals in Fable II have been improved over the first game.
From XboxOZ360:
"There is little doubt in-game marketing is growing. IGA Worldwide, who claim they are "the independent leader in the expanding in-game advertising market" said its in-game advertising network now reaches 30 million gamers on four distinct gaming platforms: the PC, Mac, Flash, and the PlayStation 3. They have created development kits that permit game developers to take sections of their games and designate them as capable of displaying ads.
The question is will the artificial world of the game mix well with these intrusions from the real world in a synergy that makes the money-makers happy and the gamers content? Or will these in-game advertisements consume the imaginative world of the game like a plague, destroying the aesthetic with crass tackyism."

Eric Schild writes, "Fable II rewards grinding with the keys to the kingdom. It holds your hand every step of the way. The combat is totally uninspired and the demon doors are still as annoying as they were in Fable. Jumping is context-sensitive. The townspeople range between daft and stupid. The dialogue for the main quest is hokey and sometimes ridiculous. In fact, most of the dialogue is just out there.
"Despite these things, the game is still incredibly fun."
From XboxOZ360:
"Do you, like me, hate pre-pubescent kids screaming profanity into their mics when playing online on Live?
Tired of the drunken swear-songs, racist or sexist commentary from the late night crowd?
Sick of having to press mute or hate having to say to your kids: "No you can't play online because there are a bunch of idiots on there?"
Well it looks like Microsoft is doing something about it. Cheers all round! Or are there deeper sinister implications that I had not considered when begging for this to occur?"
