KVM sponsor aims to go multi-site. Qumranet, the commercial sponsor of the KVM virtualisation software, has begun beta-testing a desktop virtualisation system aimed at geographically distributed organisations.

Simplifying security for SIP trunks and mobile deployments. Sipera Systems, a security firm focusing on unified communications (UC), has announced a new edition of the Sipera IPCS range of security appliances adding functions for more advanced corporate IP telephony networks.

ways of replacing the UK's aging copper network with high-speed fibre, in order

Claims cooler, cheaper chipset could accelerate 10G
uptake.
LAN developer Solarflare has developed a chipset for 10Gig Ethernet over
copper which is more compact than its previous generation and needs half as
much power. It claimed this will enable a dual-port card for a server to
operate well within the 25W limit of a single PCI Express slot.

Enterprise Wi-Fi vendor Extricom has launched an 802.11n switch, claiming
its "blanket" Wi-Fi technology solves the power problem of the new standard,
allowing a smooth transition to faster Wi-Fi.
