SheeEttin writes "If you've been longing to play games from Steam on your Linux machine, you may not have to wait much longer — the Left 4 Dead demo includes some Linux libraries, in particular, one named 'steamclient_linux.so.' While the game's full release does not include these libraries, their apparently accidental inclusion in the demo suggests that Steam games will have native Linux clients in the near future. (A job listing at Valve looking for someone whose responsibilities would include 'Port[ing] Windows-based games to the Linux platform' would seem to support this.) The libraries also include several strings nonessential to a pure server, including references to forgotten passwords. Hopefully, this indicates that at least some Valve-affiliated games will have native Linux clients."

Salma Hayek brought her big mommy cleavage to CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute. If you don’t know what that is, it’s an award show for do-gooders that you’ve probably never heard of before. It’s lame and boring but thankfully Salma brought some MILF duds for everyone to enjoy and make the evening more entertaining.

The long-fabled third entry in the Ghostbusters franchise will be arriving in the form of a video game for PC, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii.
The title is being written by Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd, and Bill Murray. All three starred in the first two films, which were written by Ramis and Aykroyd. The trio will also lend their voices to the game, which is currently being developed by an unknown studio.
The project was unveiled by Game Informer's teasings of its next issue. More details are expected soon.

The format war has been ongoing for over a year, and despite the fact there is no clear winner, Blu-ray has gone so far as issuing press releases in the past to declare itself victorious.
But it seems Sony has now realized it's not in the ring with a push-over, and winning the format war is not going to be as simple as the cocky Blu-ray camp has boasted it to be.
Going into the all-important holiday season, Toshiba has been hawking its players for as low as $200 in the U.S., while the cheapest Blu-ray players are twice as much.
Furthermore, Sony seems to be suffering from, er, Blu-balls, after Paramount Pictures announced it was going to put out to HD DVD exclusively.
Some of the most popular GameCube games would have actually made more sense on the Wii. Crazy theory? Eric-Jon Rössel Waugh examines the evidence.
Market analysts call the Wii a return to form after the relative flop of the GameCube. Design analysts call it a potential return to form after the relative rut of the previous fifteen years. Whatever the spin, when people look at Nintendo's recent misadventures, generally the GameCube sits right on top, doe-eyed and chirping. Its failure to do more than turn a profit has made its dissection an industry-wide pastime. Everything comes under the microscope, from its dainty size and handle, to its purpleness, to the storage capacity of its mini-DVDs. The controller, though, has perplexed all from the start.

Fresh from the record-breaking release of Halo 3, the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system continues to remain Australia's number one gaming platform.
According to the GFK figures for October, Xbox 360 was the best-selling console hardware for the month, repeating its September success with another very strong showing.
"Halo 3" also remained Australia's number one game, selling more copies and generating more revenue than any other title across all formats. In addition, Australians spent more dollars on Xbox 360 hardware, software and accessories than on any other platform.
David McLean, Australian Xbox Director, says, "We have maintained our momentum throughout October and with the blockbuster range of titles we have coming in November and December, Xbox 360 is primed to finish the year on a very successful high."

It looks like a Best Buy in Marina, California was a little confused about what "floor model" meant and accidentally put a boxed 360 version of
Rock Band out for sale instead of setting it up as a demo unit -- and the eagle-eyed Tim Menz managed to spot the oversize box poking out of the Guitar Hero 3 display and "casually" purchase it. Apparently the UPC was already in the system but didn't raise any flags when it rang up for $169. Tim didn't bother with any of that silly rock music nonsense and skipped straight to selling out on eBay, but pulled the auction when EA called him and politely asked him to return the kit to the store. He hasn't done that yet, since it's a little unclear whether Tim got a full copy or just an in-store demo -- anyone out there know the answer?
Update: Tim got back to us and says it is in fact the demo, but he's put it back on eBay for all you desperate to rock.
[Thanks, Thomas]

Barry Levinson and Robert DeNiro team up for the screen adaptation of Art Linson’s Hollywood insider account What Just Happened: Bitter Hollywood Tales From the Front Line. In the vein of similar narratives such as The Player, Sunset Boulevard, and, most recently, the television series Entourage, What Just Happened strikes a contrast between the superficial glamour of the movie business and the exigent trivialities that lend themselves to its infrastructure. Contrary to these other films and Entourage, What Just Happened often confounds its purpose—ostensibly, to shed light on the utter absurdity of the industry and characterize the power brokers involved as almost Arthur Miller-esque “working men”—and the need for a tangible commodity.
While one may argue that "a man hanging over a ledge in Hollywood is desperately funny and true,” as Linson does, it does not seem enough in terms of: a) breaking new ground and b) providing the audience with anything to hold onto in the long run,

ART is one of 11 short films that comprise the feature film: The Ascension of Faith. Each short film is based on an essay written by Cevin Soling that was then given to each film maker to turn into a short film of their own. ART is by Kristine Barrett.
