Samsung has five new large-sized touchscreen LCDs out that could bring something similar to CNN's Magic Wall into your own home (or mall, or airport). Branded under the TS series, the five LCDs range between 32-inches to 82-inches and can be linked together to create one massive wall of touchy goodness. While they're made to be used as point-of-sale terminals or information LCDs, who's to say we couldn't find something more creative to do if we got our grubby hands on them? [Akihabra News]

HP and IBM are slugging it out over I/O virtualisation claims.

I knew going in that I would be moved by Shake Hands With The Devil. I knew that I would sympathize with Canadian General (now Senator) Romeo Dallaire as he struggled against international indifference; as he was forced to witness the Rwandan genocide and to interact with its perpetrators while being forbidden to intervene; as he returned home to Canada and was treated for post-traumatic stress, and was eventually driven to attempt suicide because of what he had seen, and done, and been unable to do.
I knew the content of the movie would impress me. What I didn’t expect was that I would be so impressed by the making of the film itself. The music, the cinematography, the acting, the script — all were fantastic. With a subject like the Rwandan genocide it would be easy to sensationalize, to go for the goriest and most emotionally wrenching moments possible, to create martyrs and monsters and to leave out the details. Too many accounts of Rwanda show a spontaneous, inexplicable, outburst of tribal violence — they make no mention of the planning that went into the genocide, the organization, the training, the scheduling, the making of lists. They don’t mention the civil war that had been ongoing for years. Shake Hands With The Devil includes that context, and shows the various international factors and voices that constrained Dallaire and his men. Not many international players come out of this looking good.
Some critics have suggested that the movie focuses too much on Dallaire, and not enough on the true victims of the genocide; that its emphasis on his struggle somehow minimizes the suffering of the Rwandans. That’s a cheap shot in my book. Everyone is entitled to tell their own story, and the story of the commander of the United Nations forces in Rwanda, who was given explicit orders not to intervene in the genocide, is one that is certainly worth hearing.
Two ferociously ambitious sisters, Mary (Scarlett Johansson) and Anne (Natalie Portman) Boleyn, are rivals for the bed and heart of the 16th century English king Henry VIII. The Other Boleyn opens February 2008.

Phil Dawson's 51 yard field goal to tie the game with no time left hits the upright then the back of the crossbar and bounces out. The Browns wound up winning 33-30 in OT. This video is owned by the NFL and CBS and I am in no part claiming it as my own.

According to actual scientific research, a robotic Pied Piper can lead a flock (gaggle?) of roaches out of a secure location and into the open, where they could technically be exterminated more easily. José Halloy, a biology researcher at the Free University of Brussels, was lead author on a paper published today in Science, wherein he details his robotic roach exploits.
Halloy and his team corralled roaches in an area covered by two discs, a dark one and a lighter one. Communists by nature, roaches tend to cluster together, motivated by group instinct. Since they all dig the dark, they did as expected and congregated on that side of the arena. But when robotic roaches were sent in to mingle, and then started easing their way over to the light side, the real roaches followed about 60% of the time, overriding their own survival instincts to hang with the cool kids.
You may notice that the robot in the picture looks nothing like a roach. Says the NYT:
[Roaches]have weak eyes, which allowed the researchers to create a robotic roach that resembles a miniature golf cart more than an insect. In the roach world, however, looking right is not as important as smelling right, and the scientists doused the machines with eau de cockroach sex hormones.Awww yeah. So next time you have a roach problem, find a small robot and slap some succulent roach cologne on that sucker, and see what kinda sparks fly. [NYT]
You're getting verrrry sleeeeepy....
This week on America's Most Smartest Model, Jim Morrison teaches high school biology, Blonde Rachel goes all Charlotte's Web on us when it comes to fetal pig dissection, Andre tattles on not one, but two housemates, VJ makes steady gains on his evilness campaign, which may pay off in the end, and Ben and Mary Alice demand a Smart Off! Who will go home? Do we even care now that Mandy Lynn and Jesse are gone? Amazingly, yes!

If you live in Japan and drive a stripy Nissan Micra (March), we are so sorry. Still, if you desperately want an NEC Nissan branded laptop to match said vehicle, you are in luck. NEC has just announced an equally grotesque laptop, finished with enough stripes to create an accomplished rock band.
Beyond the eccentric exterior and a few strategically placed Nissan tags, the ¥120 498 ($1020) laptop is a run of the mill LaVie G model. The device packs a 1.8GHz Sempron processor, 512MB RAM, 15.4" widescreen display and runs Windows Vista Home Basic. Our advice on this gadget; look (for a short period as it may burn your eyes), but do not (under any circumstance) touch. And you thought life couldn't get worse; a Nissan Micra and a matching laptop—be brave; it'll be OK in the end. [Digital World Tokyo]

Last week, we showed you that other video from Code.tv that featured Fabrizio Brienza, owner and/or promoter of Flatiron club Happy Valley, struggle to keep his lush chest hair under control.
Thanks to some resourceful readers, we find out he has other talents, including acting in soft core pornography (NSFW, obviously). In a scene from the film, Hotel Erotica, we see a large bosomed woman straddling Fabrizio at about his navel. That is one position we did not learn in our high school sex ed class. As with all clips of this nature, watch at your own risk - your eyes cannot unsee what they are about to see.

Microsoft has grabbed nearly a quarter of the fast-growing x86 server virtualisation market in the second quarter, just a few months after the launch of Hyper-V.According to research company IDC, the success cut VMware's global share to less than twice its own. Counting by licence shipments, VMware had 44 percent of the Q2 market with its VMware ESX and VMware Server products, IDC said. But IDC analyst Brett Waldman said, "VMware's virtualised licence share is likely to decrease in the long run [as Hyper-V continues to] grow and take share from both [Microsoft's] Virtual Server 2005 and VMware."Microsoft said the results "reflect the strong customer and partner adoption" of its virtualisation software. The company has aggressively discounted Hyper-V to US$28 per server. A standard licence for VMware's ESX Server costs $3,000. Microsoft also released this month a free low-end standalone version called Hyper-V Server 2008 . Higher-end versions of Hyper-V are also free to users of Windows Server 2008. Waldman said shipments of the legacy Virtual Server 2005 still comprised the majority of Microsoft's shipments in Q2, however.
