Few have been spared the satire of Matt Groening's long running animated sitcom. Last night,
The Simpsons took on Apple, or uh, Mapple for a full 6 minutes of lampoonery -- a pretty harsh ride at a two-joke per minute pace. It all starts when the Springfield mall gets its very own Mapple store, "it's so sterile," gasps Lisa upon entering. Perhaps the best exchange comes from Bart's dubbing of a Steve Mobs' product announcement in front of a crowd of gaping nerds, "You think you're cool because you buy a $500 phone with a picture of a fruit on it. Well guess what? They cost 8 bucks to make and I pee on every one!" A Mapple store employee then angrily responds, "Who dares question the boss we fired 10 years ago and then brought back!" Yuk yuk. Videos after the break for as long as it takes for the copyrighters to wake up.

Disclaimer: This commercial may be super old or something, but we're accustomed to ripping our juicy entertainment free from the stinky shell of advertising, to consume with our bare hands, the pulp and syrups flowing down our arms. And besides, any commercial that uses a lightsaber to carve a turkey is pretty much a must post on our part. Man, we'd love to see this guy go to work on the pie next. [superpunch]

What do you get when you cross toxic waste with a bunch of exotic spiders? Eaten. As every fan of classic spine-tinglers knows, given the opportunity and the right chemical enhancement, arachnids will grow to humongous size and wreak havoc upon humanity. In "Eight Legged Freaks" the residents of a rural mining town discover that an unfortunate chemical spill has caused hundreds of little spiders to mutate overnight to the size of SUVs. And they're hungry. When the alarm is sounded, it is up to mining engineer Chris McCormack (Arquette) and Sheriff Sam Parker (Wuhrer) to mobilize an eclectic group of townspeople, including the Sheriff's young son, Mike (Terra), her daughter, Ashley (Johansson) and paranoid radio announcer Harlan (Doug), into battle against the bloodthirsty eight-legged beasts.

1up is reporting that despite numerous reports of its death, the Halo movie isn't quite completely cancelled ... yet. As far as Fran Walsh, Peter Jackson, and the WETA folks are concerned, things are still just in a holding pattern. "Kamins also shot down both the rumors of a swelling budget and dissatisfaction with Blomkamp. 'The only budget the filmmakers every spoke about was $145 million less the 12.5% rebate that you get from shooting in New Zealand, which would put it at about $128 million,' said [Jackson representative Ken Kamins]. And of the director, Kamins said, 'Everybody is supremely confident in Neall. Part of what excited Peter and Fran was Neill's vision. We're very confident this film will move forward with the creative partners intact, who will take the film to production.'" Update: 10/30 18:58 GMT by Z : It looks like that post was made from outdated sources.

Maria Shriver is leaving television news, and it's all Anna Nicole Smith's fault.
The ex-NBC newswoman and wife of California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger says that TV coverage of the death of Anna Nicole Smith (and all of the other stories that came from her death) led her to quit TV news forever. She made the comments during a speech at the Conference For Women. She says that watching the nonstop coverage made her realize that TV news had changed and she no longer wanted to be a part of it. She has plenty to do as First Lady anyway.

It's been almost a year since McNamara/Troy closed up shop in Miami and packed their bags for Los Angeles, in search of a better life. Following up on a season where just about every loose thread from the world of Nip/Tuck got answered might seem like a daunting task, but look at it this way: after two seasons of some of the best stuff on TV, Nip/Tuck returned for a third time to mixed reviews because of the season long focus on The Carver. For the most part, the show returned to its roots in season four, but overall it was clear that the FX drama needed its own face lift. Starting from scratch in a city where you can order a pizza and a boob-job at the same time seemed like a perfect fit. Fans of the show can rest assured that it is. I've screened the first two episodes of the new season and creator Ryan Murphy has continued to provide us with a show that indulges all our guilty pleasures.

Why does it seem like its more dangerous to be a spectator at these events then a driver.
Zetabyte's Zbox isn't just a networked storage device. Every bit you put on the drive gets uploaded to Amazon's S3 storage cloud. So, if an earthquake, tornado, flood, or any other natural or unnatural disaster takes out your pad, your stuff is safe and sound over at Amazon's batcave. The hardware doesn't cost anything. Come again?
Ya, that's because you'll be paying about a buck per gigabyte every month for the privilege of online data mirroring. It costs $50 for 30 GB, and plans scale to about $300 for 690GB. The boxes themselves run power PC processors, have 128 MB of RAM, and check for software updates every hour.
This is basically better than any backup drive you can find...as long as you can afford it.–Brian Lam
