DOG POOPY
Preview of the NetConceal Anonymizer.

While delivering a discussion on the challenges of evoking unique emotions for video games at the Montreal International Games Summit, Kellee Santiago revealed new details on the development of her studio's second project, flOwer. The project was announced at this September's Tokyo Game Show but details were scant.
Santiago described the project, which is the spiritual follow up to the popular PlayStation Network game flOw, as thatgamecompany's "first game outside the safety net of academia." Based on Santiago's talk, it's clear that the game will be based at least partly around raising flowers alongside more traditional gameplay elements based on emotional responses to challenges consistent with the natural environment.
The lights are going to flicker. And no, I donÂ’t mean the lights on the Christmas tree.
Considering how badly Sonic's last dozen or so games have been, it's a good thing the blue blur has been finally unleashed. He goes a little wild with the freedom, but also gets the opportunity to return to his true self. Sonic Unleashed features classic speed-based platforming action that puts Sonic's previous installments to shame. Unfortunately, a set of dreadfully out-of-place action levels starring Sonic's werehog alter ego brings everything to a screeching halt.
THE BOTTOM LINE: It's tough to teach an old dog new tricks -- Sonic Unleashed tries to introduce new ideas with daytime and evening levels that switch between speedy platform and bulky action, but only the former has any bite. Sonic doesn't need to experiment, he just needs a good dose of the nostalgic design that makes up half of this mediocre game.

The North American marketing for DS guitar simulator
Jam Sessions has been pretty low-key, comprised of a MySpace page, uninspired print ads, and a bevy of videos showing real artists using the non-game to play fake guitar.
Off the charts, then, are
New Zealand's excellent television spots for the title, which emphasize how having
Jam Sessions in your DS repertoire can transform you into an instant rockstar. According to the ads, being an instant rockstar involves hitting on your buxom aunt, and cursing out your mum for baking you the wrong birthday cake. Honestly, the things those New Zealanders can get away with on television!
If we haven't made it abundantly clear, these videos are definitely
not-safe-for-work material. Catch all the raunchy, raucous action after the break (and not a single shot of gameplay, either!).

It turns out that desire for higher-definition visuals is much higher than Nintendo expected. Those Wii component cables that
showed up on Nintendo's official online store have completely sold out. In addition, GameStop's
online listing has been pushed back from December 5 to the 15th. If you're impatient, however, you can purportedly still purchase MadCatz's "HD Premium" component cables for $60 as of December 1.
Has Nintendo
underestimated the expedience at which consumers have adopted HD (or, at least,
ED)? A 480p screen isn't a head-turner, but it certainly beats standard definition. Looks like the House that Mario Built might have to add more detail into the plumber's mustache sooner than they expected.

But Microsoft promises to hit end-of-2007 deadline. The release of Longhorn, the next version of Windows Server, looks as though it may be slipping with Microsoft announcing its third beta will be out in the "first half" of next year where previously it has indicated it would be "early 2007".

Yeah, it's pretty much like the best Napoleon game ever.
Licensed games have got to be the worst things to ever happen to the gaming industry. Rushed, buggy, uninspired, it's rare that a game can both capture the essence of the license and offer up some enjoyable gameplay as well. Somehow Napoleon Dynamite: The Game from developer 7 Studios avoids the pitfalls of most licensed minigame collections and delivers a product that's surprisingly polished and occasionally as inspired as the film it's based on.

This is a yet to be released original song composed by Delgado/Plotkin which tells the sad story of a man who, regretably, failed to tell his wife that he loved her before it was too late. Tragically, she was one of the victims of 9/11. It is performed by M.L. Delgado with a Beautiful and Moving Backdrop Mural, of how the Twin Towers once majestically stood . The message of the song offers a "Universal Admonition!" Don't wait to verbalize your love to family and friends near and dear to you. "The chance may never come again." This song is up-for-grabs as they say. We are praying that some Brilliant Record Producer (Are you reading this Simon Cowell) will have the Wisdom and Insight to market this song on a National Basis. I found Intrepid to be a fast and stable release, yet I experienced some minor issues that keep it from absolute perfection."

The folks over at Bit-tech were able to score some extensive hands-on time with the Wii outside of the short demos shown at E3 or other mass-media events. The impressions are generally positive, but stripped of the effusive praise for the system that seems to have gripped most of the game journalism community
Bit-tech worries that the controller may end up being a gimmick, fun to bring out at parties but not as intriguing on a day-to-day basis. The site also felt the controller's motion-sensing technology wasn't as revolutionary as it could be -- instead of a "magic wand" that accurately senses every move, the author felt like the controller has "been designed to mimic a joypad, with a few neat tricks thrown in."
All that being said, the preview did have positive things to say about most all of the games demoed, and mentioned that the system is "fun to play." But despite the claims of a completely revolutionary experience by Nintendo and others, Bit-tech found their experience with the Wii "a bit different from the 360 and PS3, but not drastically as you may have thought/hoped."

Security firm
Aladdin Knowledge Systems thinks it has found two great tastes that go good together, recently snagging a patent for a combination smart card / optical disc. Dubbed the "XCD" (for Extended, not
Xtreme, alas), the technology embeds the smart card chip on the surface of the disc, along with a foldable or detachable USB (or FireWire) connector to connect the disc to a PC or other device. The idea, apart from the just-for-the-heck-of-it factor, is to use the smart card functionality to control access to data on the disc -- for instance, limiting the number of times a CD can be played. Not surprisingly, Aladdin sees virtually limitless potential for the device, with XCDs able to replace ATM cards, credit cards, ID cards, and key cards, with the disc even able to fold up and fit in your wallet. Let's just hope they've also got a patent for super-durable CDs.

BOLD MOVES: THE FUTURE OF FORD A new documentary series. Be part of the transformation as it happens in real-time
BioShock isn't exactly the kind of game you expect downloadable content for. There's no multiplayer and the storyline doesn't lend itself to simply dropping in additional "levels." At the same time, unless you're interested in unlocking all the achievements, there isn't much motivation to play through the game a second or third time -- but creator Ken Levine of 2K Boston envisions that as how he'll approach the game's DLC.
