We're not totally surprised that Kevin Federline wants his own reality show, but we are, frankly, a little disappointed in his selection of House of Carters Executive Producer Kenneth Crear to produce the show. We were thinking something a little more Flava of Love! Anyway, it seems that K-Fed had his own reasons for the choice, as Crear told Us Weekly:
"Kevin came to me because he liked the way I shot the House of Carters series and the way I made Nick Carter look real and trustworthy. I gave people a different perspective of him and made people really respect him."
Oh ... oh, right, of course.
That's why we respect Nick Carter now.
More leaked information confirm what many have feared and suspected. Following the resignation of one reviewer along with Jeff earlier today, a GameSpot employee suggests more could be on the way out soon.
"...a ten-year employee gets locked out of his office and told to leave the premises and then no one communicates anything to us about it until the next day. It's all about the money"
Plus:
- GS employees confronting and criticising the Executive Editor.
- They're suspicions of shady principles emerging from advertising deals.
- Recommend gamers away from GS reviews.

The Nintendo DS has set another record in the UK, with the portable selling through 191,000 units last week alone. This is more than any other hardware format had ever achieved in a seven-day period. Nintendo spoke out, saying Were obviously delighted to be able to announce this. Momentum has been increasing on DS sales and to achieve the highest weekly sales figure ever in the history of the games market is fantastic. So who had the record the DS? Why it was the PSP on its launch week- a sure sign of how well the DS is going and perhaps its expanded market?
SnagWire: Blizzard has released a patch for its decade old RTS hit StarCraft.
Patch 1.16 offers some optimizations: "[StarCraft] now only uses as much CPU as it needs to run smoothly." In-game chat (excluding whispers) is now saved in the replays. There's some bug fixes and the removal of several exploits including Terrans drop-anywhere nukes and some additional Zerg exploits as well.
Here are the full notes...
It's official. You no longer need to be a rich international man of mystery to have cool gadgets. For only $3, you can own a pocket spy camera that takes stills and movies, and can double as a webcam.
Storing up to 2MB of data and drawing energy from AAAs, the Digicam Trio doesn't need much in storage or power because it only takes 640x480 VGA resolution images anyway. Think of it as a kit car. "Microsoft is livid that Nintendo has taken the lead in the console wars with a technically inferior but more-fun-to-play system," says Geoff Keighley, host of Spike TV's Game Head. "Microsoft has struggled to make the system appeal to a broader consumer. Games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero III will help, but both of those titles are also available on the PS3."
Sony also hopes to woo shoppers weary of searching for Wiis. Howard Stringer said, "It's a little fortuitous that the Wii is running out of hardware."
According to Weekly Reader Research survey of 8-to-17-year-olds, Wii was on 32% of wishlists, the Sony PlayStation 3 on 19% and Microsoft Xbox 360 on 17%.

Yeah, we know, it's a totally retro headline that could just as easily have been written a decade or so ago, but
Chrono Trigger on the DS really is the most exciting release this week. And you know what that means, right? You did it! You made it through the worst of the torrential releases of Holiday '08! We're so damn proud of you we could burst.
What's left to fear?
Prince of Persia next week? Heck, you could do a
Prince of Persia week in your sleep by this point. No, you did it, you made it through. We like to think you may have even learned a couple of things about yourself along the way.

I've got plenty to be thankful for in my life, but -- pffft! -- y'all don't care to hear about that! This is TV Squad after all, so let's get down to what I'm thankful for when it comes to all-things television:
Damages getting uber-renewed As the first season of
Damages ticked down toward its finale, I wasn't the only one afraid that F/X was being quiet about the show's renewal status. It wasn't until recently that we were blessed with the news of
not only one new season, but two! Many of us fans have already gone into speculating what the major plot will be for the second season, but to now wrap our minds around a third ... wow.
The Shield having all remaining episodes in the can The
WGA strike is obviously going to be a huge downer for TV watchers everywhere, if it hasn't been already.
Some shows will take months to reappear, possibly if at all! Thankfully one of my beloved shows,
The Shield, apparently won't be affected by the strike, as it has its final season all wrapped up for us like a fat present under the tree (even if it does air in the spring).

You know those brainless console bundles that some retailers force sell? You know, the kind that exploit scarcity for a cheap couple of bucks? Well said retailers have been missing the boat all along as Ebay reseller tim_carlson_rules offers one PS3 bundle auction to rule them all:
"This is the most unique auction currently on Ebay because not only do you get the hottest holiday item that you won't see in stores until late 2006 at the earliest, but you also will get a FREE SNICKERS BAR ... oh and there is also this game called
Resistance: Fall of Man which I'm including as well. I'll say this again ... FREE SNICKERS BAR!!!"

Tons of franchises available to the studio including The Hobbit.

Wow, the Bryan Singer directed, Tom Cruise starring drama VALKYRIE is in quite the turnaround these days. Who would have thought that just a few months ago, everyone was expecting this movie to pretty much disappear? And with the recent release of a new trailer, things are looking up for Singer and Cruise's exploration of Col. Claus von Stauffenberg's attempt to assassinate Hitler during World War II. Problem is, Nintendo hasn't turned on their servers yet, so while our Wii can find an access point, it can't connect to Nintendo and download the update already available for it. So, the next best thing is checking out some of the functionality of the console and this is where the video, embedded into the post after the break, comes in. Watch as

There is one major problem with
The Office convention, as I see it: the people are normal.
Here's what I mean -- the average
Office fan is someone who really likes the show and enjoys watching it with other people who really like the show. They are, in a word, average. At no point did I run into some crazed super-fan who spends every day dressed like Dwight or is currently converting his house into an exact replica of the Schrute farm. In just about every case, the people I talked to were kind, courteous people who made the trek to Scranton to a) meet the people they'd been talking to online and b) perhaps get a chance to hear their favorite stars talk.
This is not what I'd been hoping for.

Mr. Fahrenheit writes in with a Wired story on research out of Arizona State, where researchers have "developed a low-cost, low-power computer memory that could put terabyte-sized thumb drives in consumers' pockets within a few years... The new memory technology — programmable metallization cell (PMC) — comes as current storage technologies are starting to reach their physical limits." PMC involves the on-demand creation of copper nano-wire bridges. It's said to promise memories that are 1/10 the cost and 1/1000 the power consumption of conventional Flash memory. Three memory manufacturers have licensed the technology and the first chips are expected on the market in 18 months.

In just nine months, the Nintendo Wii has turned the video game industry upside-down. Sales of the console, whose players use their bodies as much as their fingers and thumbs, are far above even the most optimistic projections -- the Wii has sold 9.3 million units worldwide, and is expected to hit 22.3 million units by next March, almost twice the sales (11.6 million) that rival Xbox 360, from Microsoft, will have generated in two years.

Odds and ends from a very busy Thursday:
- While I'm not overly excited for David Fincher's Zodiac, I am definitely looking forward to The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Pic has just added Julia Ormond to its cast for a little reunion of sorts with her Legends of the Fall co-star Brad Pitt. Here, she'll play the daughter of Cate Blanchett's character, a woman who finds herself having to listen to mom go on and on about some dude who ages backwards. Yes, that would be Benjamin Button (Pitt). Man, I am dying to see what Fincher does with this one.
- Rob Corddry (the latest Daily Show correspondent to jump ship and start a movie career) has hopped onboard the new Farrelly Brothers flick, The Heartbreak Kid (aka Seven Day Itch, aka Untitled Farrelly Brothers comedy). Pic stars Ben Stiller as a newlywed who falls in love with another woman while on his honeymoon. Apparently, Corddry will play Stiller's best friend. Also starring in the film are Michelle Monaghan, Malin Akerman and Carlos Mencia.
- Heck, it's not an animated comedy unless you have 72 actors signed on to provide voices, and the upcoming Igor has just added Jeremy Piven (that's right, he's important enough to start voicing animated characters now) and Molly Shannon. Pic, which is based on the short film of the same name, revolves around the assistant of a mad scientist whose main goal in life is to win first place at the annual Evil Science Fair. The three main actors from the short (Steve Buscemi, John Cleese and Christian Slater) have already signed on to reprise their roles.
- Finally, guess who's back to making good-looking films? If you said Steven Soderbergh, then go ahead and give yourself a gold star. The director's latest film, The Good German, now has a trailer online ... and the thing doesn't look too bad. Perhaps George Clooney should stick to black and white from here on out. Starring Clooney, Tobey Maguire and Cate Blanchett (man, she's everywhere today, huh?), The Good German follows an American journalist who is lured into a murder mystery that involves his former mistress. Is it me, or did Clooney appear to be missing something in that trailer?
