An LCD on a printer is no uncommon sight these days, but we've got to hand it to Casio for totally blowing out the concept. Its new printers, the PCP-1000 and PCP-200, hit 7-inches and 3.5-inches, respectively, with the 7-incher (pictured) running at 480 x 234, while the 3.5-inch keeps things respectable at 240 x 320. Of course, it's still hard to justify one of these things for editing and reviewing your photos when odds are you'll have a perfectly good PC sitting a few feet away, but when has that sort of logic stopped us in the past? The PCP-1000 is hitting Japan September 20th for 61,950 yen ($547 US), while the PCP-200 will run you lucky folk 50,400 yen ($445 US) on September 7th.

Did you know that The Arcade Fire released their album Neon Bible (TMT Review) earlier this year? Of course you know, because everywhere I go it's Arcade Fire this and Arcade Fire that. Frankly, I'm sick of all this Arcade Fire news. In fact, I've spent the first half of this year purposely avoiding writing any and all Arcade Fire news stories. There has been rainy Monday nights where Mr P has had to call me up and beg for me to write some fresh Arcade Fire news. But no, I would say; I (...)

TOUR NEWS
For weeks now BWE.tv home movie critic Brian Faas has been bugging us about when he'll finally get to discuss his all-time favorite movie Wild Hogs, so you can imagine his delight when the day finally came this week bearing the arrival of the "old actors who haven't been in anything good in a while riding around on motorcycles" classic on DVD. As much as he wanted to just re-watch this over and over again, savoring each and every one of John Travolta's hammy gay-panic jokes, his reporting duties also required him to pry himself away from the leatherdaddy action long enough to also take in Vacancy, in which Luke Wilson brings his frat pack brand of comedy to a horror movie about being stuck in a snuff film being made by that kid from Can't Hardly Wait, and Fracture, a psychological thriller in which Anthony Hopkins creeps out Ryan Gosling for a couple of hours. So take a gander, cause Brian is ready to go hog wild on your BRAIN!

Microsoft's announcement on Gears of War on PC at this year's E3 didn't exactly knock us flat in shock, but it was a little surprising to learn that cross-platform support between PC and Xbox 360 wasn't planned.
After all, a massive game like Gears of War is surely just the thing to encourage PC gamers to try this feature that Microsoft's introduced in Games for Windows - Live, isn't it?
Looking forward to the new PSP? japangamingguide can't wait to get our hands on the new system. 1Emulation Reports: "The Nintendo Wii homebrew/hacking scene hit a big case of misfortune recently after the encryption for the Wii virtual console games was decrypted. Many sceners did not want this to publicly happen, as they feared it would shorten the lifespan of the Wii from piracy, and Nintendo would be more adamant in patching holes for newer firmwares.
However, since the first few virtual console games have been released in the inner cores of the Internet, one of our staff members took the liberty in seeing what one these decrypted virtual console games (and which he owned) had inside them. Upon further inspection, he found that the game held a ROM file, that can even be played on emulators! Not only that, but the documentation of the game that you can read on the Nintendo Wii is simply a bundle of HTML files. The virtual console games come with the emulator as well, and the emulator application is one of the files in the game WAD."

Some more exciting news coming out of Comic-Con yesterday. This time around I had the fortune to attend the special preview of upcoming Lionsgate releases and a panel convened for just such a purpose. Some of the films discussed during the panel include upcoming releases 3:10 to Yuma, Good Luck Chuck, Midnight Meat Train and the inevitable Saw IV. An interesting and eclectic mix of genres and talent represented at the panel to be sure. Ok, settle in because here's the scoop.
First up was the very amusing Dane Cook and the supremely attractive Jessica Alba -- looking fantastic in a tight black dress and her, as Dane Cook joked "C-3P0 shoes" -- discussing their upcoming film Good Luck Chuck. We've talked about this film before here at Cinematical, but this time around I got a chance to see some exclusive footage from it -- including a scene where Alba takes a bubble bath and tries to have phone sex with Cook's character.
Of course, that clip was met with huge approval by the entranced attendees. Sadly, as much as I like Dane Cook and Jessica Alba (who doesn't?), I had a hard time getting too excited about the film -- Alba and bubbles notwithstanding. The crowd, however, mostly reacted positively to the previews, so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. Or, maybe I'm just jaded from seeing too many less-than-stellar movies? Either way, we'll know for sure if the film is good or not when it hits theaters on September 21st.

From today's WSJ: "Paris Hilton wants more privacy. The celebrity socialite has put her Los Angeles home on the market for $4.25 million. Arguably one of the most closely watched people in the world, Ms. Hilton wants to buy a larger home in a gated community or, at least, one with a long gated driveway, according to her aunt and informal spokeswoman, Kyle Richards." As much as all of mankind has hated Cash Warren for winning the the heterosexual lottery and getting promoted from "movie PA" to the position of "Jessica Alba's sex partner" and co-enjoyer of her lavish lifestyle, I've got admit, the UsWeekly account of her sending him on a one-way trip to Dumpsville is nothing less than heartbreaking. Brace yourselves:
Sources tell Us that Alba, who was abroad over the weekend promoting Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, called Warren on July 22 and told him, "I'm not in love with you anymore."
Within hours, Alba had dispatched an assistant to the L.A. home they shared to pack up Warren's belongings and move him out. [...]
The breakup "happened...almost out of nowhere," the source says.
Ouch, right? But wait, it gets even worse at the end:
When Cosmo asked the actress to name her celebrity crushes, she replied: “I would have to say Johnny Depp, Michael Caine...Morgan Freeman, and Jake Gyllenhaal.”
So let us recap: dude gets dumped by Jessica Alba, out of nowhere, over the phone, left with nothing but the Abercrombie rags he was wearing when he struck it rich, and the mental image of his girlfriend getting the Shawshank Redemption from Morgan motherf*cking Freeman!?! THAT, my friends, is what you call a "bad day". But seriously, Cash - try to look at the bright side...there has to be one somewhere. Okay, maybe not, but still, it could be worse. You're right, it couldn't be any worse. Look, just don't off yourself, dude.

VMware said Tuesday it will offer the small-footprint version of its ESX virtualization software free, responding to pressure from Microsoft and other companies that are threatening VMware's lead in the virtualization market.
The next version of ESXi, which will come in about two weeks, will be available at no cost, said VMware CEO Paul Maritz on a conference call Tuesday to discuss the company's second-quarter earnings. ESXi is a basic hypervisor, which is technology that separates the OS from server hardware so multiple OSes can run virtually on one physical server.
Maritz said the move to make the already low-cost product free is part of VMware's plan to make its virtualization and network infrastructure products "as freely available to everyone in the industry" as possible as it diversifies its products beyond merely enabling virtualization. A former Microsoft executive, Maritz replaced VMware cofounder and former CEO Diane Greene, who was ousted in a sudden move two weeks ago.
VMware is facing some of its toughest competition yet as Microsoft and other companies seek to commoditize the core virtualization technology on which VMware's business was built by offering it as part of the OS.
Speaking about his "alma mater" Tuesday, Maritz called Microsoft a "formidable" competitor, but "not an invincible" one.
"I know that Microsoft can afford to play a long waiting game," he said. However, in markets where another company already has a sizable lead -- such as VMware does in virtualization -- it can be "really hard to catch [up] even for Microsoft," Maritz said.
VMware reported $456 million in revenue for its 2008 second quarter, which ended June 30. It was an increase of 54 percent from the same period last year. However, consensus estimates from Thomson Financial analysts expected the company to fare slightly better, predicting $458.6 million in revenue for the quarter.
Non-GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles) net income for the quarter was $92 million, or $0.23 per diluted share, which was in line with analyst estimates.
VMware fell more than 14 percent from a close of $37.97 to $32.50 in after-hours trading Tuesday.
You might remember that Microsoft dropped the hint that they were working on countering Apple's Mac/PC ads. Well, the battle begins now. Microsoft has created a website to give users compelling reasons to update to Vista. It has a rather frank admission from Microsoft:
"When Windows Vista debuted in January 2007, we declared it the best operating system we had ever made. "Windows Vista is beautiful," The New York Times raved. It's humbling that millions of you agree.
But we know a few of you were disappointed by your early encounter. Printers didn't work. Games felt sluggish. You told us-loudly at times-that the latest Windows wasn't always living up to your high expectations for a Microsoft product."
Then Microsoft goes into great detail about how Vista has improved since then with "100 Reasons Why You'll Be Speechless" as well as "10 Things To Try."
In an in-depth interview with Gamasutra, Peter Moore speaks his thoughts about Xbox 360 in Japan, Sony PS3, and Halo 3.
As part of the Gamasutra interview, Peter Moore has been discussing the need for broader Xbox 360 appeal, commenting "...as much as we love our hardcore guys... we've got to get fun back in the living room on our platform", and hinting at a Tokyo Game Show reveal for new broader-appeal content.
Also within interview published today on Gamasutra, the exec has been commenting on the likelihood of seeing upcoming Final Fantasy games appearing on Xbox 360, suggesting "we would hope" to have Final Fantasy XIII on Microsoft's next-gen console.

A Socialite's Life's fun take on celebrity news, fashion coverage and all things "girly" has made it one of the brightest starts in the blogging galaxy, which is why we're thrilled to have them in our Blogger Action Network. After the jump, they take a look at recent allegations that soap star Shemar Moore might be gay, after being photographed doing a little nude sunbathing at a gay beach. Though Moore insists heterosexuality, explaining that he doesn't go to "gay" beaches, he just goes to beaches where men walk around naked and sometimes have sex with each other. - AlexFormer Soap Actor Says He's Not Going to Hell
Shemar Moore of "The Young and the Restless" fame, and who is now working on the series, "Criminal Minds," talked to In Touch in regards to some nude pictures of him featured in a tabloid. The rag claimed that Moore was bathing in his birthday suit at a gay beach, but it's not so, says Moore.
"People find it interesting to try to make me gay; I'm not gay. I went on vacation with two girlfriends of mine who, interestingly enough got cut out of the pictures. We found a nude beach, as far as I know, was a unisex beach.... We took off our clothes and jumped in the water."
Well, he's definitely pretty enough--I can see why he's constantly being claimed. He looks like he'd probably be quite an asset to the team. Maybe everyone's thinking that he just needs some encouragement.
