Fresh off our Toaster Deathmatch 2K6, we bring you this Breakfast-Art Image Toaster. Sure, it looks like any old toaster you could get as a wedding present (and then promptly return for booze money), but this one draws things on your toast!
Four separate image designs—a sun, a cup of coffee, a smiley face or a birthday cake. You know what? As jaded as we've become over cutesy gadgets, this thing's pretty great. We're buying these as gifts for everybody this Xmas. – Jason Chen

This release fixes a bug with inserting items in smart views, the check spelling as you type preference, a conflict with the cmd hotkey, a bug that caused the automatic backup to not work on the first ever document save, and a bug that was causing some users to have problems opening documents after registering. The progress meter window is now a normal panel, so it can be positioned behind the main window. The performance of converting to straight quotes has been optimized. There are cosmetic improvements.
Here is the official response from Nintendo in full:
"Nintendo is surprised by the content of the Greenpeace report. Nintendo takes great care to comply with all relevant regulations on avoiding the use of dangerous materials, recycling of materials etc. For example, all Nintendo products supplied worldwide are designed to comply with relevant European standards, which we understand are amongst the most demanding in the world."
"In order to certify that Nintendo products comply with European standards such as RoHS Directive, Nintendo has established the Green Procurement Standards, which require our component suppliers certify that any parts including hazardous chemical substances should not be delivered, and Nintendo fully controls its products in the company. Furthermore, Nintendo products comply with the European toy safety standards.
We do not know the basis or methodology used by Greenpeace to produce this report, and therefore cannot comment on it."
CVG writes:
"Crisis Core is a fine PSP adaptation of FFVII's key qualities, taking inspiration from its dramatic cutscenes and magic (Materia still has a big role), but cutting away the fat (lengthy wandering, and an overlong centre) to present the critical core of FFVII's enduring spirit."
Verdict:
"Crisis Core is more than a nostalgia trip for FFVII fans - it's a fresh and exciting game in its own right, and arguably the single most impressive application of the PSP's power."

Review:
Here's a remarkable true story that comes to the screen with an
exhilarating disregard for conventional rules. With maverick
painter Julian Schnabel at the directing helm, you expect nothing
less. The very first scene thrusts us into the head of a man
emerging from a coma. His name is Jean-Dominique Bauby. He's the
editor of French Elle. And a stroke has left him
paralyzed, trapped in the diving bell of his own body, with only
his left eye — which blinks like a butterfly — capable
of movement. That Bauby was able to compose a memoir through a
painstaking process of blinking when an assistant spoke the
alphabet aloud is nothing short of miraculous. The book was
published in 1997, just three days before Bauby died at age
forty-five.

Review:
There's a special kick that comes in finding a new star. So step
up, Ellen Page, and take your bows. You won't find a sass queen
around who can touch Page as Juno MacGuff, a pregnant
sixteen-year-old with a smart mouth that won't quit. Page (Hard
Candy) has the rare knack of being brutal and funny
simultaneously. Her flow of quips and put-downs comes courtesy of
debuting screenwriter Diablo Cody, another find. I'd also include
director Jason Reitman, son of Ivan, in the newbie box, for making
such a cleanly executed, pungently comic job of it, but he's an old
hand, having directed Thank You for Smoking last year.
Here's the thing about Juno: She says a lot, but not always what
she means. Take her treatment of Paulie Bleeker
(Superbad's Michael Cera), the geek who fathered her baby.

Despite a lacklustre performance from Sony in the software sales in Europe, it seems that they're doing pretty well in the hardware department, if you were to believe the latest figures from VGChartz. Yet it isn't the PS3, Wii or Xbox 360 that raises a few eyebrows.
At the New York City launch event last week, Blizzard Executive VP of Product Development Frank Pearce gave an update on the "World of Warcraft" movie currently in development.
"Legendary Pictures is currently trying to assign some names to write the screenplay and find someone to direct it, so it's still really early in production," Pearce said. "They want to make sure they get the right talent for those different parts, especially the screenwriting, because that's the foundation for the movie."
MTV also asked if Blizzard considered making a full CGI movie in the vein of their games' cinematics. "[The idea] has come up in discussions but it's not something we've really considered because it takes so long to generate just the brief amount of footage that we create for the game," Pearce explained. "That department's focus is creating the footage for the games to tell the story; it would be a huge undertaking and it's not really something that we're ready to do anytime soon."

Engadget writes:
"NVIDIA's recently rolled out GeForce 8800M GTX has already made its way into a laptop, specifically Rock's Xtreme 770, specially updated to integrate the new chip. The 770 features a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo, a 7200RPM 200GB HDD, 2GB of RAM, a 17-inch 1920x1200 display, and that all important GeForce 8800M GTX graphics card. The new card is certainly no disappointment, kicking the 8700M by a factor of two in most gaming benchmarks (although that also says a lot about the 8700M's lackluster performance.) The bottom line with the 8800M GTX is that it enables acceptable performance in Crysis at reasonable resolutions, which is more than can be said of most desktops. However, you might want to hold off until the GPU reaches lappies other than the Rock Extreme 770, which costs £2,199: that's over $4,500 at the current exchange rate."
Inventor, astronaut and scientist Dr. Reed Richards' (Ioan Gruffudd) lifelong dream is close to being realized. He is spearheading a trip to outer space, to the center of a cosmic storm. There he hopes to unlock the secrets of the human genetic codes for the benefit of all humanity.
Extensive government grant cutbacks nearly dashed the visionary's hopes of the historic flight, until Reed accepted a financing deal with his old college rival, Victor Von Doom (Julian McMahon), now a billionaire industrialist.
Reed's crew for the mission includes his best friend, astronaut Ben Grimm (Michael Chiklis); Sue Storm (Jessica Alba), Von Doom's director of genetic research and Reed's ex-girlfriend; and Sue's hot-headed younger brother, pilot Johnny Storm (Chris Evans). With benefactor Von Doom in tow, the four set off for the exploration of a lifetime.
The mission is uneventful – until Reed discovers a miscalculation of the speed of the approaching storm. Within minutes, the event threshold is upon them. The space station is engulfed by turbulent clouds of cosmic radiation which genetically transforms the crew. Their DNA is irrevocably altered…and so is their future.
Back on earth, the effects of the exposure are quickly revealed. Reed gains the ability to stretch and contort his body into any shape he can imagine and, as leader of the group, is given the name Mr. Fantastic; Sue is able to render herself invisible and to create and project powerful force fields as Invisible Woman; Johnny becomes known as The Human Torch, as he can now engulf his body in flames and take flight at will; and Ben, whose freakish transmutation is the most shocking, becomes an orange-colored, rock-like, superhumanly strong creature, The Thing.
Together, they turn tragedy into triumph and catastrophe into coalition, using their unique and formidable powers to thwart the evil plans of their now steely-eyed, iron-fisted nemesis Dr. Doom and to protect the citizens of New York City against any threat that may arise.
Astronauts. Superheroes. Celebrities. To the world, they are the Fantastic Four. To each other, they are a family.

Hi Wii fans, this is a pair of nuggets that TOP Secret-Blog has for you. EDGE Magazine published an article about the upcoming Animal Crossing for Wii, and they wrote that this one is going to be an MMO. Well, that?s truth. This game is being created as one of the premier Wii Online experiences and it?s definitely an MMO. Worried about the lack of hard drive on Wii? Don?t be. Somebody is telling me that a Wii + Hard Drive is indeed planed to appear when the release of this title is ready (Q4 2008). Also, people can still use SD cards to save their data (A 2GB SD Card is going to be packed with this Animal Crossing, you can count on that).

The most persistent sound which reverberates through men's history is the beating of war drums.
Great Moments in Journalism are submitted by readers, and can be sent to this address. The polls have closed, and your winner is Gary Miller, for his groundbreaking treatise on how chicks who go to clubs are sluts. Gary wins nothing but the ignominy he so richly deserves.
Today's Moment comes from one of the eight million stories written by the enterprising reporters who traveled to Glod, Romania, in hopes of milking one more story from the Borat phenomenon
We went in search of "Borat" and were shooed away with brooms. We tried getting to the bottom of arguably the most offensive movie in theaters this year, and people told us they'd like to kill the star, comedian Sacha Baron Cohen. The Romanian village of Glod stands in for Kazakhstan in the film, "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan." Glod literally means mud, and that's only some of what its people would like to sling at Cohen and his production company.... About 85 miles from Romania's capital, Bucharest, Glod looks like something out of the Middle Ages. About 1,400 people live in Glod, and, by Western standards, one could say they are dirt poor. The air is rancid, probably from the fires that burn on the outskirts of the village. The sight of old women carrying wood is common as is the manure that litters the narrow roads. The majority of villagers live on welfare benefits. Some try to make a living by selling their produce, such as fruits and mushrooms, while others sell woven baskets and slabs of stone.
Interestingly, each one of these pieces mentions that people in Glod would not talk to reporters without being paid. Nice to know that America's newsrooms are now a major source of foreign aid.

For those of you who just can't wait until Sunday to get your hands on something Wii-branded, some North American Gamestop stores are already selling select Wii games that were shipped to stores on Tuesday. Our local store was selling
Super Moneky Ball: Banana Blitz,
Trauma Center: Second Opinion,
Call of Duty 3, and
GT Pro Series (other titles were in stock but explicitly embargoed until launch day). Of course, supplies and availability may vary at your local store, so call ahead first if you're planning on jumping the gun.
While you obviously won't be able to actually play the games until you have your hands on the system this weekend, you can stand them up next to your
Wii accessories from Target and stare at them lovingly as you count down the seconds.

The wailing and gnashing of teeth from the game-playing media seems to have gotten through to the NPD group. Despite earlier statements to the contrary, it looks like for the time being they plan to continue to release console sales figures to the press at large. Next Generation reports: "NPD Group's David Riley admitted in an e-mail Monday, 'Honestly, it was terribly naive of me to think that we could simply stop providing these after giving them freely for a year ... Nothing is going to change. All will remain the same ... The 'Big Three' [Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony] are on board, so we'll be providing these figures indefinitely.'"

(S01E06) "I bet you haven't seen a movie made before 1983." - Tom, to Jaime
Does anyone else think that Jaime is sort of dumb? I mean, she's hot and can fight and seems to be an OK spy-type person, but there doesn't seem to be anything else going on up there. If she wasn't a spy, she'd be back at the bar, banging random dudes and drinking a lot and arguing with her sister all the time. The above quote from Tom illustrates that. I bet she's not really interested in anything and seems rather dull to me. Or maybe it's just the way Michelle Ryan is playing her. Did I mention she's hot?

While the U.S. mid-term elections are going full steam ahead with a myriad of maybe-reliable and
not-so-reliable electronic voting systems in place, Quebec is pulling back from its adventures in e-voting, after the province's chief electoral officer Marcel Blanchet delivered a harsh
report on the 2005 municipal elections. The voting machines were used in some 140 municipalities in the province last year but, according to the report, they went down like bad plate of poutine, suffering from blackouts and transmission errors, resulting in unreliable results -- although he adds that there's nothing that can be done about the results now except to move on. He also reported that the electronic voting machines weren't any faster or more economical than manual counting. As a result of the report, Quebec's Municipal Affairs Minister Nathalie Normandeau is accepting Blanchet's recommendation that the current moratorium on electronic voting put in place after last year's elections be maintained, apparently indefinitely.

General Lee's Peking writes to mention an Associated Press article about a sad development in the DARPA Grand Challenge. Because of some new DoD-related legislation, the organization will no longer be able to award the $2 Million prize to grand challenge winners. It's not all bad, though; they still get a trophy. From the article: "The absence of a lucrative cash prize has forced some teams to retool their game plan and others to drop out. Some fear it would be harder to attract corporate sponsors and hurt media coverage of the race, which drew a throng of reporters last year and inspired a PBS documentary. 'The icing on the cake is gone,' said Ivar Schoenmeyr, team leader of California-based Team CyberRider, which is retrofitting a Toyota Prius hybrid."
