Monolith Soft revealed a plethora of details regarding future games. As could be surmised based on sales charts, Disaster: Day of Crisis has not sold very well at all. Nintendo producer Hitoshi Yamagami has stated that the game is "performing lower than expected."

Ars Technica's Opposable Thumbs blog spells out a few of the results for us: "The median completion time hits at exactly five hours, with some noteworthy variance between four and seven hours. Average play session time logged was 27 minutes. The average number of deaths spikes significantly at two specific maps during the final two levels with an average of 11 deaths per section, as well; and looking at the topographical maps at some very specific locations on the maps as well. 73.1 percent of users playing were doing so with Direct X 9.0 SM3, and 72.6 percent played the game on medium."

NBC Universal Digital Studios has entered into a deal with MSN to produce exclusive content for web distribution. Universal plans to unveil A Big Life With Sissy Biggers this fall, which will be completely exclusive to MSN and will have interactive features.

A Big Life is not exactly a program most gamers would normally watch; the show is a humorous approach to various lifestyle activities such as gardening and cooking. However, if this formatting becomes popular, production of shows friendly to traditional gamers is a reasonable assumption.

If the MSN exclusives become a hit, could we expect Microsoft to move the format to the 360 and produce exclusive HD content? Convincing studios to make 360 shows could be a powerful weapon in Microsoft's arsenal to battle the PS3. The 360 is already getting digitally distributed television shows, but would you be more willing to buy television shows and movies for your 360 if you knew that was the only place you could watch them? Word on the street is Bill Gates is planning a weekly series where he acts out scenes from your favorite games. I'd buy that.

Apple has released to developers the Darwin UNIX source code that underlies its Leopard operating system.

The Weinstein Company announced today that they have acquired U.S. and Canadian rights to the controversial documentary My Enemy's Enemy . Kevin Macdonald ( The Last King of Scotland ) directed the film which is being produced by Rita Dagher ( Fahrenheit 9/11 ) through her production company Yalla Films. The announcement was made today by Maeva Gatineau, Executive Vice President of Acquisitions for The Weinstein Company.

You might have heard about those $99 HD DVD players that were being sold for a moment at Walmart and Best Buy. You're probably smart enough to realize that Toshiba isn't making much scratch on these things, but for reference, the first HD-A1 HD DVD player, cost Toshiba $674 in parts alone (Says iSuppli, 2006). So are they losing ~$500 bucks on these newer player selling for less than a C-note?

Within a calendar year, I very much doubt that it could have been price-optimized more than 30% (*number pulled out of thin air). Either way, it's pretty clear that Toshiba is losing at least a few hundred dollars on this $99 deal for consumers, and maybe over $500 bucks including all costs. Is this sale desperation? Or have they moved on from the early-adopter battle field and straight into the Waterloo of mainstream buyers? Maybe it's just a stunt, since most places sold out almost immediately. What better way to win the hearts and minds of cheap Americans than to hold an insane sale on a sliver of all of your inventory?

Blizzard quietly announced last night that the Wrath of the Lich King beta is over. The beta servers were closed at midnight last night, however, there are only nine days until the cold land of Northrend will be available to players again, this time on the Live servers.

Patch 3.0.3 will also be going live after today's server maintenance, implementing the last of the changes before the Lich King is unleashed.

Remember, remember the fifth of November - gunpowder, treason and ... games? Was that corny? Yes, it was - but you try coming up with these intro paragraphs every week. (S01E06) "Vampires can't really be trusted with pets."--Mick St. John

I'll go ahead and admit it: I like it, in episodic dramas, when subtleties of the plot further a developing theme or subplot. Bear with me here: Moonlight isn't a soap opera, because the storyline isn't continued every week. There are definite cases with beginnings and endings. However, we all know by now that at its heart, Moonlight masquerades or moonlights (ba-dum bum!) as the burgeoning love story between vampire Mick St. John and human Beth Turner. In the backdrop. we also learn more and more about vampirism and its culture. So, I appreciate when the investigation, in its fashion, furthers the love story every week, and this week did not disappoint me.

Delmer Daves’ original is an absolute gem of narrative, directorial and acting precision, and the overblown quality of James Mangold’s remake had me worried. So, we get a burning barn in the opening scene, as if otherwise we can’t comprehend the financial threat to the farm. There’s an overextended attack on a stagecoach where a Gatling gun is thrown into the mix so there’s more things getting blown up in the modern style. And Christian Bale’s farmer is now given a wooden foot, as if we otherwise couldn’t see how Ben Wade emasculates him in front of his wife and son — although Van Heflin and Glenn Ford were perfectly able to do it without the wooden foot fifty years ago. But in the end, it works pretty well, Russell Crowe does a good job with a convincing mix of ruthless criminality and better-natured charm, and the changes that are made to the film at the end are ones that no doubt make the story more credible to a modern audience while still preserving the moral force of Elmore Leonard’s original story. (Although I also can’t help wondering do we really need this remake?)

This is a series of commercials that Barry Michaels and Bill Taylor, 'Taylor and The Bear' did for KMLE Radio. These talented and polished morning professionals dominated the ratings in Phoenix and Houston during the early 1990's. Both are still active in broadcasting.
