The Writers Guild of America
has announced that CBS news writers, graphic artists, and other staff who work for the network's television and radio news operations have voted by a wide margin to strike against their employer. 81% of the 300 ballots cast in a special election last week backed a labor stoppage. They have worked without a contract for the past 2½ years.
The union will meet with CBS after Thanksgiving to discuss the issues at hand and decide the course of action they will take. At this time a strike isn't inevitable, but the employees covered by the WGA could technically strike at any time.

Filed under: Arcade, Microsoft Xbox 360

A few months back EB Games' website accidentally
leaked information about an arcade stick for the Xbox 360. Due to some production hiccups we should finally have the Arcade GameStick next month. The joystick will include Xbox Live Arcade games
Frogger,
Time Pilot and
Astropop. The joystick includes all the buttons found on the Xbox 360 controller, including the rumble feature and it can connect through USB to a PC. The MSRP is $49.99 USD.
It's about time this thing comes out. Playing a lot of the classic games on Xbox Live feels horribly awkward because the games were designed in a time pre-thumbsticks -- five minutes with
Street Fighter II makes that abundantly clear. Now as long as the thing is made well and we can bang our joystick around like in the good old days without it snapping off, we'll be quite happy -- 'cause nobody likes to see their joystick snap off.

Microsoft is aware that Nintendo is the company that "puts more smiles on more faces," so it doesn't bother trying to compete on the happy front. Instead, the company wants to invade your nightmares, filling them with hollowed out heads and disembodied mouth creatures. The company's newest creative torment is for the iNiS developed Xbox 360 singing game Lips, in which a man is haunted by a stalking pair of sentient, lyric-forgetting lips. The mouth beast travels across harsh terrain and unfavorable weather conditions to force the man to do his bidding - to sing A-Ha's "Take On Me" for the sadistic ambling maw's delight. The horror....

"It's a big, big show for you guys this week -- you might even call it massive... get it? Good. That's where we start. I talk with other Mass Effect players Bryan Intihar, Jennifer Tsao, and Mike Nelson; we all agree that it's a great game, but HOW great is still up for thorough nit-picking."

Inside an office in sunny Raleigh, North Carolina, Epic vice president Mark Rein settles back into a comfy seat. "It all started way back in the stone age," he begins. "You know, Tim Sweeney started the company in his parents' basement in Maryland."
Outside, staff members play on the Epic basketball court, others help themselves to a mountain of saturated fat in a snacking area that would make Elvis blush, and a dummy sits in the echoing halls of a super hi-tech motion capture suite just waiting to be hurled off a ledge for the fiftieth time.
Others still beaver away on Unreal Tournament III, presumed further iterations of Gears of War and engine tech that will have an inordinate number of games we've barely dreamt of plugged into its guts. There's no disputing it, Epic Games have come a long, long way since their original birth as Potomac Computer Systems back in 1991.

LG just announced their KB6100 mobile phone that not only allows you to watch TV via Korea's T-DMB network (wireless digital broadcast), and can also record the shows you want to watch later in PVR fashion. These shows can either be played back during boring weddings/funerals or transferred to your computer via USB for later viewing.
The KB86100 features EVDO, MUVEE music video production, MP3 playback, dinky 1.3 megapixel camera, screen with 170-degree viewing angle and no word on how it actually stores video.
By the way: LG KB6100 is 10.95mm thick—skinnier than the RAZR by about 3mm. This is the first phone in a long time that's made me reassess my role as a US citizen. Seriously, this phone is so hot it doesn't need glam shots with a sexy Korean model; it is the model. – Mark Wilson

The Dough-Nu-Matic may have a stupid name, but its saving grace its fantastic use—it produces mini doughnuts! Mini doughnuts, we tell you! Is there anything cuter than edging your way to myocardial ischemia, one minuscule, bite-sized snack at a time? We think not. The device contains an enclosed oil fryer, which apparently will keep clean ups to a minimum, but will eventually make cleaning up your arteries a real pain. How ironic. The Dough-Nu-Matic will churn out a dozen diminutive snacks in under six minutes, and the privilege shall set you back $129.99. [Product Page via Random Good Stuff]

Students lacking financial savvy are barraged by credit-card offers starting their freshman year, said Becky Timmons, an official with the American Council on Education. She spoke at a news conference Wednesday in Washington.

(S04E03) "The heart can be a bitch." - Alan Shore
I cannot begin this review without addressing how shocked I was with the opening scene. The very idea of a fifteen year old girl who contracts HIV made my jaw drop. I was shocked that a school would teach children that abstinence is the only effective way to avoid unwanted pregnancy and STD's. When I was in school (many years ago) we were taught that while abstinence is the best way to avoid the pitfalls of teen sex, condoms are a close second, especially when it comes to avoiding disease. As a parent, it concerns me that my daughter's school might actually teach this sort of thing. Thankfully, Alan pointed out where the blame actually lies...in the lap of the U.S. government. In an effort to please the conservatives who elected them, the Republicans refuse to give schools an option that would teach teens a realistic way to have sex responsibly. I know it's only a TV show but only a fool would think this kind of thing isn't happening in some parts of the country.
