Think you're getting a great broadband deal? Think again. With many people falling short of the "up to" speeds offered by their ISP, we're campaigning for the truth: advertised speeds reflecting what we're actually getting.
Join us - test your speed here and let us know what you think below. The result is an indication of your speed in kbps (kilobits per second- please note that speed is measured in kilobits and megabits rather than bytes, a common mistake).
Due to the overwhelming response of the campaign, it might take a minute or so for your test to start. This is because we are limiting the amount of users on the speedtest at any one time, to ensure that the results are not compromised by very high usage. Thanks for your patience!

There are only 10 Frost White Helio Drift in existence, and Gizmodo got 3 of the GPS-enabled sliders straight from the factory today. As it turns out, the frost version of this tricked-out phone is only going to be produced in small numbers—only about 3 percent of all Drifts will be made in this lustrous shade. It's Samsung's first to hit this rare tone, and they had to learn some new tricks to get it just right.

Don't let the license fool you. Snoopy's game is loaded with intense air combat that players of any age can appreciate.
angrymilkman writes "Here are two interesting new approaches where researchers modified the popular Guitar Hero game so it can be played by gamers with disabilities. Air Guitar Hero modifies the Guitar Hero controller so someone without limbs can play it by using electrodes attached to the user's residual arm. Blind Hero is a mod for Frets on Fire that uses a haptic glove that can turn visual feedback into haptic feedback, allowing blind gamers to play Guitar Hero songs." There have been a variety of Guitar Hero hacks in the past, including a custom drum pad for playing the guitar part, using the plastic guitar as a real instrument, and rocking out with your bike, but it's nice to see some more serious modifications showing up.

Ahead of the release of NPD's October hardware and software sales results, Wedbush Morgan's Michael Pachter and simExchange's Jesse Divnich have predicted the Wii will once again emerge on top of the hardware charts, and Activision will dominate software with Guitar Hero and Call of Duty.
Though the September release of Halo 3 saw Xbox 360 sales push just past those of the Wii, the analysts have said that despite hardware shortages, Nintendo's console will regain its top slot. Pachter has predicted 450,000 Wiis sold to simExchange's 467,000, ahead of their Xbox 360 predictions of 325,000 and 412,000.
Both see PS3 in last place with 125,000 and 136,000 units sold respectively, despite the 80GB model's recent price drop to $499.

Late last week, Kotaku ran a rumor that said Sony Computer Entertainment Chief Technical Officer Izumi Kawanishi had been shuffled out of SCEI and is now working for Sony Corporate. Kotaku contacted Sony Computer Entertainment, Sony Computer Entertainment of America and Sony Computer Entertainment of Europe. All refused to comment. Odd, because this seems something that could be addressed rather easily if Kawanishi was still at the company. Since Kawanishi had worked on the PS2, the PSP and the PS3, he was obviously a key team member and important to SCEI's past successes.
Kotaku have gotten more details from insiders about the power struggle that supposedly went down.

The console wars are in full swing. There has been a lot of argument about the Wii and if this is a fad, or if it will triumph over all other consoles. If the Wii wins the top dog spot, who is going to be second? It has been almost one year since the release of Playstation 3 and Wii while the Xbox 360 has been released for two years. Let's see how they stack up against one another.

Business Wire reports on October 29:
According to a JupiterResearch report, HD content has little impact on consumer decisions. Only 24 percent of consumers cited content as an incentive to upgrade to HD because standard DVD has a far more extensive library than either HD DVD or Blu-ray.
"The real competitor that both these formats face is not each other, but rather low cost DVD players with up-scaling capabilities that pass the ?good enough? test for most consumers," explained Michael Gartenberg, JupiterResearch Vice President and lead author of the report.
Further complicating the issue is the penetration of broadband and the growth of the market for downloadable video content. "The abundance of material in such a wide variety of formats is going to make adoption of any single standard very difficult," said David Schatsky, President of JupiterResearch.

Action, Role-Playing Game, from Activision
ahab_2001 writes "The computer game Spore has been marketed partly as an experience that makes evolutionary biology come alive in a game setting. But does that claim hold water? To find out, John Bohannon, a correspondent for Science Magazine (writing as 'The Gonzo Scientist'), sat four card-carrying scientists, ranging from evolutionary biologist Niles Eldredge to JPL astrophysicist Miles Smith, down in front of a terminal to play the game. The upshot, says Bohannon: Spore flunks basic science, getting 'most of biology badly, needlessly, and often bizarrely wrong.'"
