The Million Book Project has eclipsed its name. On Tuesday, Carnegie Mellon University officials announced their international venture to digitize 1 million books has exceeded its goal by 500,000 works of literature, with 7,000 more added daily. "By the time we sat down and counted it, it was up to 1.5 million" books, said computer science professor Michael Shamos, director of the project and a copyright lawyer.
Chris Reese, the Technical Director at SCEA Bend Studio writes:
"Hi everyone. I wanted to let everyone know that Syphon Filter: Combat Ops was recently released on the PLAYSTATION Store for PC, where you can now download it to your PSP. Hopefully many of you were able to see a sneak preview of Combat Ops that we included on the UMD release of Syphon Filter: Logan?s Shadow, but in the event that you haven?t let me tell you a little more about what to expect with it.
Syphon Filter: Combat Ops builds on the 8-player infrastructure and ad-hoc multiplayer game that was first released with Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror and now recently Syphon Filter: Logan?s Shadow. The sneak preview allowed players to create missions from one of the modifiable maps and play those maps against friends via an ad-hoc connection. With the full version of the game that can now be purchased and downloaded from the PLAYSTATION Store, you will now be able to choose from 4 customizable maps to create multiplayer missions. For me, the most exciting part is that those missions can be uploaded to the online community that can be shared and played with other fellow players via an infrastructure WiFi connection".

I know Im not alone in still feeling the disappointment over learning that we have to wait until next summer for the next installment of the Harry Potter series to premiere. I suppose well have to live off of the occasional trailer and other TV spots in the meantime. Perhaps Daniel Radcliffes appearance on an upcoming episode of Bravos Inside the Actors Studio will help quench your Potter craving just a little bit.

The history of James Bond films is the history of our fascination with technology: booby-trapped briefcases, jetpacks, cars with machine guns and ejector seats, super-magnet watches, cars driven by remote control, acid-filled fountain pens, cars that become invisible, sharks with frickin' lasers...

This here AirPod might look like an iPod and have a stupid prefix-Pod name, but it really has nothing to do with the ubiquitous music player. It's actually a pretty nice looking air purifying device for cleaning the air of all the bacteria, pit stink, and Cheetos dust that fills your room after a long day of vegetatively staring at a screen.

Gamasutra's semi-regular feature taking the pulse of folks in the game industry turns its attention this week to the PS3 and Wii launches. From the comments submitted to the site, it seems that many industry vets are generally more excited about the Wii than with Sony's offering. From the article: "'Definitely a Wii (already pwii-ordered). The price point of the PS3 and the lack of enticing launch titles makes me as interested in a PS3 as I am interested in getting a root canal.' - Ryan Conlon, Gearbox Software. 'I am buying a Wii because Sony is too arrogant, from their dev tools to the price point.' - Ed O'Tey, Electronic Arts. 'Wii - pre-ordered. I applaud the attempt to expand and explore game interaction with the Wii. I will not be purchasing a ps3.' - Jim Perkins, EA Canada"

Young actor

ISuppli took apart the PS3, sourced all the components and found it to have some serious engineering mojo.
With the PlayStation 3, you are getting the performance of a supercomputer at the price of an entry-level PC
The premium model costs $840.35 to make (Which sells at a loss for $600.)
The Xbox 360 on the other hand, costs $323 to make, these days. So, what we're trying to get at here is that the PS3 is a good deal. A lot of bang for the buck. A Bargain.
A wonderful surprise, for us, and for Sony. Good job, guys!
But I suppose we could have figured it out for ourselves if we'd considered how much the PS3 costs per pound. Fat ass.
Did you know the WiFi module is only $15 bucks? Hit the jump to see the price per component for everything else.

Media behemoth Warner will snap up more top studios as it homes in on its target of becoming a billion dollar publisher within five years.
Warner UK president and MD Josh Berger told MCV. ?We are all very incentivised to grow the business and that?s what we?re going to do.?
?I think you?ve seen the various steps we?ve taken to date, so it?s definitely part of a very clear strategy we have in this space.
So I wouldn?t be surprised if you saw other moves. Certainly with this latest deal for TT Games it represents how keen we are on this industry.?
And while Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment continues to eye up other potential deals, new signing TT Games will set about creating blockbuster family titles based on Warner?s stock of big name IP ? as well as continuing with its own lucrative Lego-licensed games.

Buffalo's got this mouse, right, and you can use it both on your desk an in the air. Given the easy-to-remember name of BOMU-W24A/BL, the mouse makes use of gyroscopic witchcraft to let users flail the mouse in the air. The software that powers the mouse is only available for Windows, so Steve Jobs will have to find another method to control his exciting presentations. It should hit Japanese stores later this month for the not outrageous at all price of about $175.
So, $175 for a mouse... Ok, being able to use it in mid-air is a neat trick, but a trick worth that many dead presidents and/or switching to Windows for? I'd be hard-pressed to say "yes," I think. – Nicholas Deleon

Why are games separated by levels? Why are characters moved with a controller? New title tries to explain.
Those whose jaws drop at screenshots or TV commercials of Ubisoft's big holiday game might see some important qualities. They might see high-definition, swashbuckling, wall-climbing action, set in the 12th century during the Third Crusade. They might see a game world that makes the Jerusalem and Damascus of a millennium ago the setting for open-world, almost "GTA"-style action.
But Patrice Desilets, the Montreal creative director, who hand-delivered an early copy of the game to MTV News a few weeks ago, sees something else, something that is important to him: "I got this idea of justifying everything in a game so that you don't feel like you're in a game." It's an unusual idea, one that may be among the most radical ideas attempted in a game this holiday season and one that he thinks "Assassin's Creed" almost accomplishes.

You'll never guess what the ocean holds that's worth more than gold...

If you love guessing games as much as we do, can we recommend the title Analyst Butt Number Awesome Pull Fun Time Special Vol. 1? Michael Pachter, voice of Wedbush Morgan Securities analysts, has come out with another estimate of positive proportions for both Sony and GameStop, resulting from the $399 PS3 SKU. In addition to Halo 3 sales bolstering GameStop's bottom like, Pachter says the new PS3 is expecting to pull in a "20% comp in the January 2008 quarter ..." and the new PS3 "should drive a significant amount of traffic GameStop's way this holiday."
Spreading his cards out into April of 2008, Pachter sites big-hitter titles like FFXIII and LittleBigPlanet will assist in continued profits throughout 2008. Interestingly, Pachter is only citing Sony-based material for these continued profits after mentioning a possible 360 price cut to counter the rumored PS2 price cut. It's interesting, as each console has some pretty big titles landing in 2008, but for many gamers, eyes are on the PS3 to deliver a monolithic smattering of quality games.

One KITT driver has been named in this dueling
Knight Rider kerfuffle. If you remember from
last month, as series creator Glen A. Larsen has been slowly forming a feature film based on the series, NBC decided to zip in and create a 2-hour
movie/back-door pilot to steal the spotlight. Now, according to
The Hollywood Reporter, it's one step closer to being the first one out there -- taking a cue, it seems, from David Hasselhoff's previous hunt for Michael Knight's son. NBC has picked soap star
Justin Bruening to star as Knight's offspring.
Just like The Hoff years before, who joined the classic show after a stint on
The Young and the Restless, Bruening will make the jump into KITT from soap operas -- for the last four years, he's played Jamie Martin on
All My Children. Personally, I'm more interested to see if he follows Hasselhoff's path and dips into bikini babe television and international singing superstardom after the role, rather than what he does with this questionable project. With a star in place, the network, so far, is beating Larsen's movie project to the punch. So, onto the questions. Can this actor pull it off and draw KITT fans in? Will this steal the thunder and end/hurt the film? Do you care? When did
Knight Rider become such tasty subject matter that people would battle each other for it?

Microsoft gets back into the browser match, and makes a game of it finally. Mozilla's return volley isn't as strong. But does it need to be? Scot Finnie takes an in-depth look at the new Firefox.

With the wacky sounds of a Very Merry Unbirthday, I will always believe that the wonderful
Ed Wynn is the Mad Hatter. Oh, how I love that insane, toy-making tea party man. But I guess if I had to deal with someone else taking on the role, there's probably not much better than
Alan Cumming. (He's practically channeling Wynn in the picture to the right.)
The Hollywood Reporter has posted that the zany actor is producing a new flick called
Hatter, along with the film's writer
James Killough and
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels executive producer
Angad Paul. Not only that, but he's re-teaming with
X2 co-star
Rebecca Romijn to do it.
The pic is said to be based on the
Mad Tea Party scene from
Alice in Wonderland, although I'm not quite sure how that is. In such a strange casting move (she said tongue-in-cheek), Cumming is going to play Matt Hatter -- "a hedonistic fashion designer," while the ex-Stamos will be his adversary, Alice Allyson -- "a journalist who knows about his shady past." So far, it sounds like all they took from the scene are spoofs on the names, unless they're going to throw in some sort of bizarre tea party into the middle, or perhaps an unbirthday.
This is also looking to be a new running theme for Cumming -- taking on classic characters/people. He's got his stint as Glitch in the television miniseries
Tin Man, and just voiced Hitler in the upcoming
Jackboots on Whitehall. But that's all we have for you right now on this weird
Wonderland redo; however, we should have more information soon, as the production is set to film in the spring of 2008. On top of all this, Cumming will receive the Golden Apple Award at this year's
Big Apple Film Festival during the opening night screening of his film,
Suffering Man's Charity, on November 14 at Tribeca Cinemas in NYC.
