Paris Hilton suffered through at Prison 90210. In an attempt to help you understand the strange "Celebritese" PR language Paris' confessions will all be delivered in, we've dusted off the old
Celebrity Translator to help us make sense of her Shawskank Redemption, the first chapter coming to us by way of
EXTRA:
QUOTE:Smiling and showing off her new blonde hair extensions at her grandfather’s Bel Air mansion, she told People, “Thank God I’m free!”
"I was basically in the fetal position, basically in hysterics," Hilton said of her first nights in jail."
TRANSLATION: By "basically", I mean that I was neither in the fetal position nor in hysterics, but actually spent the first night in my cell snuggled under a down comforter with a bag of microwaved popcorn watching the first season of
Laguna Beach on DVD.
QUOTE: She said that despite rumors of other inmates poisoning her food, “All of the inmates were very supportive. There were girls next to me. We could talk through the vents and they were just really sweet."
TRANSLATION: I told those f*cking glorified security guards that my family would "sue them into oblivion" if I so much as SAW an actual prisoner (especially a black one), and whenever I felt like someone I didn't trust was getting too close (usually delivering my meals), I simply closed my eyes and threw $100 bills at them until they went away.
QUOTE: On getting out of jail, she said, “Just being able to hug my mom felt so great, and I really needed it 'cause I haven't had a hug in a long time."
TRANSLATION: It was so nice of my mother to place the bump of coke (which I needed, because I hadn't had one since the 8 ball the guard sold me the prior morning) discreetly on her shoulder so the camera people would just think we were hugging because we love each other. My mom really is sweet sometimes when she's not being a b*tch (but I definitely don't love her).
QUOTE: But for all those who doubt the heiress will change after her experience, she insisted, “They're wrong, and they don't know me. I'm a good person. I'm a compassionate person. I have a big heart. I'm sincere, and they'll see."
TRANSLATION: Look, this is just about the most publicity I've ever gotten, and I didn't even have to bone some sleazebag to get it. I'm gonna ride this "turning over a new leaf" sh*t out for as long as I can (or as long as it takes for someone to photograph me being a drug-addled whore again).
QUOTE: Finally, Paris shed some light on the “medical condition” that got her out of jail the first time. She explained that “the doctors were observing me while I was there. They explained to Sheriff [Lee] Baca that they thought I was having severe anxiety, panic attacks, claustrophobia."
TRANSLATION: I suffer from a rare condition called
Attentionwhoritis, which reduces me to a catatonic state of psychotic despair if I'm ever forced to go more than 12 hours without having a picture taken of me shopping, partying or both. The only way I made it through the rest of my sentence was because one of the guards agreed to take photographs of me blowing him (incidentally, he's the one who got me that coke I mentioned).

Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura isn't new to the adaptation game, having already brought projects like the comic series Constantine and the videogame Doom to the big screen, but this summer he's got several high-profile movies launching that are all based on other media: the toy/cartoon series Transformers, the book Stardust, and the Stephen King short story "1408." IGN recently chatted with the producer about all of these projects, and he discussed the difficulties -- and the rewards -- of transforming such properties for the silver screen. "The hard part in bringing Transformers to the screen is you have to be, want to be, and care to be loyal to the story of Transformers," says di Bonaventura, much to the delight, no doubt, of Optimus Prime fans everywhere. "The mythology, the heritage, all those things that all those people who grew up with the show really feel strongly about. And yet you have to introduce a human element to carry a big part of the storyline for the practical reasons of they cost less money, those humans. And [for] the real reason which is I think [for] an audience member
who is not a Transformers fan and who may never become a Transformers fan, but they may become a fan of the movie because they have a human being with which to relate with in the movie. So the challenge of [director] Michael [Bay]'s style and abilities is how do you keep a, I'll call it a five-and-a-half-foot storyline, alive against this 32-foot storyline. That's a challenge that Michael as a director took on exceedingly well, and as a producer you have to give him the tools both in putting together the cast -- is it the right cast? -- and putting together the script -- is it the right script? -- and keeping that notion always alive in the middle of this hectic, crazy process we call making films." Transformers is different from a Stardust or a 1408 film in that there is no central authoritative voice who can be consulted in the adaptation process. In the case of the two written works, however, all that was needed was the blessing of or a discussion with the respective authors, Neil Gaiman and Stephen King. "I think here's where the similarities [between the projects] are: Transformers has quite an involved mythology when you get into the information around it rather than each individual episode," says the producer. "You really get into what happened on Cybertron, etc. You get a lot more; in Transformers language, it's more than meets the eye.
And Transformers has a very hardcore fanbase." And those various fanbases can be very vocal if they're not satisfied with the way a film based on their beloved franchise is proceeding. In the case of Stardust, allaying the fears of such a group was as easy as Gaiman addressing the topic on his website. But Transformers was a somewhat more complicated proposal in this regard. "Neil could reassure people immediately that, 'Don't worry, guys, the filmmakers really do care about being true to it,'" he says. "Whereas on Transformers, because there's so many people and so many experts, it took more time to convince people that our intent was pure." This "creator" or "creators" notion also applies to the actual process of developing the film as well. "With Transformers, because it is more diffuse, you have to ask your panel of experts, your friends who are crazed fans, the guys who have written books about it," says di Bonaventura. "You have more people you have to solicit to ask the very same question you would ask from just one

While the rumor mill is perpetually abuzz for
Diablo III, let's go back one iteration to a game that's
actually available. Blizzard has released patch 1.12 for
Diablo II,

which allows you to run the full game without the disc in the tray, provided you have all the required .MPQ files. According to
BlizzPlanet, that either requires a full re-installation or copy-and-pasting the proper files onto the computer.
The patch also fixes some compatibility with Intel Macs and resets the online rankings. Our friends at BigDownload speculate this might be preliminary steps to putting the game on Blizzard's
digital download store. Blizzard, known for patching games years after their release, updated
Starcraft as recently
as 2007.

Renoir’s version of vanity publishing, this film was a vehicle to promote the less than stellar talents of his wife Catherine Hessling. Basically, it’s a hoary old melodrama of an innocent young girl sexually menaced by an array of male nasties, including her own uncle. The expressionistic dream/nightmare sequence was quite striking in its day but seems rather derivative and a distraction from the strengths of the film – the lyrical depiction of the natural setting along a quintessentially Renoirian river. (One character even ends up floating, Boudu-like, down the river – but to very different effect.)
