Forget cheap laptops

In a month that has seen several people killed after being tasered, a UN committee of ten experts has ruled that tasers constitute torture and are capable of killing. This flies in the face of the manufacturer's statement, which is that any resulting deaths after a taser is used are "attributable to other factors." Intended to prevent officers from having to use lethal firearms, the taser has arguably become well established as just another tool in a regular officer's arsenal for use in scenarios where a firearm would never be considered. As for what effect this ruling will have on the sale of tasers, we're guessing "not much" until all the involved parties come into agreement about the lethality (or lack thereof) of the taser.

We'd like to extend a heartfelt congratulations to Tinsley Mortimer, 31, who's placed first in one of the most competitive debutard derbies: Socialite Rank's latest NY Social Elite Power ranking. The Socialite Rankers use a complicated formula based several criteria, including "personal styles and designer relations," "press coverage in major publications and gossip columns," "appearances and commitment to events," and "hot factor--what makes each of the individuals sizzle with personality." We did notice that the Tinz placed second in the previous ranking two weeks ago, which meant she muscled her way to the top spot over the last couple weeks. What, pray tell, could've made the difference this time?

Richard Bare spent most of his directing career helming the productions of every single episode of Green Acres. You'd think after all that time spent directing what some consider to be the dumbest sitcom ever he'd never want anything to do with the show ever again. WRONG!
Bare recently bought the rights to remake the series from the widow of creator Jay Sommers. According to Bare, now is the perfect time for a remake of GA to hit the airwaves.

I just realized that Rosie O'Donnell has become one of those celebs that you know by one name, like Madonna or Twiggy or Superman. Now you can just say "Rosie" and TV fans know who you're talking about.*
There's been a lot of talk lately about what Rosie is going to do next. Will she go do a talk show on MSNBC after Countdown with Keith Olbermann? (Answer: no.). Now Rosie herself, on her blog, says that she's seriously thinking about doing a talk show on her web site. It makes sense, since she has more money than God and can do anything she wants, turn down anything she wants, and wouldn't have to put up with the hassle of working for someone else.

One would expect that a woman both as desirable and exotic as Olga Kurylenko, star of QUANTUM OF SOLACE, would be too disarming in person to speak to, but she as down-to-earth as you could imagine. When I asked her who her favorite Bond Girl of all time was, she openly admitted that she was not too familiar with the Bond franchise and that she had never really seen any of the films before she was cast. When speaking to Kurylenko...

It's becoming very quickly apparent that everybody has a lot of questions about the Wii (not to mention the PlayStation 3), and we'd be obliged to answer. Go ahead and leave 'em in the comments and we'll post our replies. Please note: the Wii's online channels (Wii shop, News, Weather, etc.) are not yet enabled, so we don't know much more there than you probably do.

Twinbird is tightening their grip on the nascent waterproof media device market with this, their Link Zabady video streaming solution. Plug the included black-box transmitter into your television or DVD player via S-Video or composite connections and stream the A/V out to that splash-proof, 7-inch LCD with 480x234 resolution. The kit features a remote control and charging dock for the LCD allowing for about 2.5-hours of untethered playback while scrubbing your tomato or perhaps even polishing your apple. Good times if you don't mind watching your vids on that highly reflective screen covered in droplets as pictured above. Expected on December 1 in Japan for ¥70,000 or about $591.

For the two of you who still care what America's favorite YA author copykitten has been up to lately, this video finds her on the Dark Continent. Watch for the scenic shots of wildlife, the glamor shot of a windswept Kaavya listening to her ipod and looking bored in a Jeep, and the money shot of the text that asks if we're "tired of seeing the same images again and again."
Ahh, that's our Kaavya. Ever questing for originality.

Pure randomness from 1967. I don't know where he got his medals from, but he deserves them.
