NBC has picked up a new dance competition series called Superstar Dancers of the World. The reality competition series will feature dancers from all over the world as they show off their best moves. I know what youre probably thinking; the show does sounds extremely similar to the already popular Fox competition series So You Think you Can Dance but to be fair, there are a few differences

If you have ever watched the Mac ads featuring John Hodgman and Justin Long and wondered what their Japanese counterparts must look like (and I'm sure everyone has), look no further! Yes yes, the Japanese have their own versions of the ads, starring members of sketch comedy group The Rahmens (I don't really know who they are, but
I've read that they're like Japanese comedy's answer to Wes Anderson... whatever that means). The ads are pretty much the same as the American ones, but, y'know, in Japanese and with different actors. I like the original ads better, but, I must admit, the Japanese PC works some pretty sweet hip movements when he's rocking out to his iPod. Look out, Hodgman.

Oh, and in related news: Contrary to recent reports of his departure, Justin Long is
still on board as the Mac guy. I suppose it really would have been too ironic if Apple had dumped their Mac guy but kept the PC.

In the first clip, Nolan and Christian Bale talk about the problems that Bruce Wayne/Batman faces at the beginning of The Dark Knight. He's helped clear up the streets of Gotham, but his success has spawned a wave of copycat vigilantes and incurred the wrath of the city's gang leaders. Bale talks about the "duality" of the character, and the fact that he's constantly at war with himself, battling to control his baser instincts.

Devo's Mark Mothersbaugh exhibits art at Scion Space

The jury is still out on whether or not
Scion cars look more like the actual future or the 1980s version, but that ambiguity perfectly matches the old-songs-made-new-again aesthetic of the Scion Remix Project, sponsored by the car company's Scion Audio/Visual label.
The Project consists of five digital singles, each highlighting a signature track from the following labels:
Greensleeves,
Vice,
Ninja Tune/
Big Dada,
Light in the Attic, and
Strictly Rhythm. In addition to the tracks themselves-- from artists such as Betty Davis, Yellowman, Panthers, TTC, and Ghislain Poirier-- the singles also feature remixes of each track. The list of remix contributors also includes Poirier as well as Federation Sound, Modeselektor, BSOD, and DFA's Holy Ghost!.
Scion A/V will unleash the Remix Project to online retailers on October 30.
So that's the audio, but how about the visual? Turns out Scion also runs a gallery space in Los Angeles, and that space will soon host an exhibition of works by
Devo's Mark Mothersbaugh. "Rugs During Wartime and Peacetime" opens November 17 at the L.A. Installation Gallery, aka
Scion Space. According to the press release, the exhibit explores "the imagery we choose to bring into our homes and how we interact with it for the purposes of comfort and peace-of-mind rather than an esoteric sense of art for art's sake." Groovy.

So, what's the difference? And what does this format skirmish mean to you? After all, both Blu-ray and HD, viewed on one of those $2,000, 1080p flat-screens, offer jaw-dropping visual clarity. Both formats will have theaters scrambling for higher quality, as evidenced by the wide release of Beowulf on IMAX and digital projection screens next month. Both Blu-ray and HD are backwards compatible, so you don't have to chuck the DVDs you already own. And both have a high level of interaction. Get bored watching Cars and you can actually play along with the movie. Want to know about Lightning McQueen and the history of the Ford GT40? Just push a button. If you've already spent all your lunch money for a PS3 or XBox 360, then you know about the interactivity afforded by Blu-ray and HD.
One's after your mind, the other's after your heart. And your poodle.

Modojo examines what they call "a series of mistakes" made by Nintendo in managing the Game Boy and claim the handheld line all but dead. The portable site blames a lack of advertising, a high Micro launch price of $99, and poor peripheral support for the suggested demise and even likens the Micro's performance to that of the Power Glove and Nintendo 64 disc-drive. Ouch!
From the article: "When it was announced that the Nintendo DS was going to be a portable gaming device that not only played Nintendo DS games, but GBA games as well, it pretty much defeated the purpose of owning a GBA in the first place ... Nintendo pretended to support the three pillars as a way to fight Sony's looming release of the PlayStation Portable. If the new dual screen and touch screen didn't appeal to the mass market then Nintendo could fall back on the Game Boy."
When rumors surfaced back in May that Nintendo would
discontinue the Game Boy from an interview with Reuters, Iwata
denied the claim in speaking with Game Daily saying his original quote was taken out of context, and only that Nintendo is currently focusing its efforts on the DS and Wii before planning a GBA successor. You make the call: Will Nintendo kill off the Game Boy, or not?

At a run down theater in a sleepy suburban town, a group of friends attend the midnight screening of a 1970s cult horror film. These unsuspecting teenagers are unaware that the director and star of the movie made a bloody escape from a psych ward five years earlier and may still be on the loose.
As the midnight movie begins, the kids heckle the old black-and-white scenes. But they are jolted when the killer butchers one of their friends
on screen! They soon realize that the killing is not a prank. They are locked inside the theatre and the killer from the movie is after them!
Caught between reality and the screens flickering shadows, are they becoming the unwilling stars of the very horror movie they are watching?

Plus: Bradford does correspondent work for MTV at CMJ

Let The Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel,
Deerhunter frontman Bradford Cox's
Kranky debut under the
Atlas Sound name, has a tracklist.
Cox, recently in Chicago to mix the record and
play with some friends old and new, posted said tracklist on his MySpace (we've also taken the liberty of reprinting it below). He hopes to have the disc available in the early spring, though a concrete date has yet to be set.
Someone must've given Cox carte blanche with MTV's AV cabinet at Wednesday night's
Windish Agency showcase at
CMJ (more than ably reported on by Pitchfork's own
Zach Baron and
Marc Hogan in these pages yesterday), as a
series of videos of Cox seeking out "all the bands at CMJ that matter" has popped up on MTV's website.
See Bradford and Dan Deacon exclaim things at each other and discuss Dan's misprinted t-shirts! Watch Bradford try to charge a No Age shirt to MTV! See No Age and Bradford discuss their scatological habits! Watch a bunch of girls pamper Bradford just before he goes onstage! Oh, and don't miss a bunch of frustratingly short clips of what already seemed on paper like the festival's showcase to beat.
Hands down, though, the best bit finds Bradford crafting a love note to No Age and taking a couple swings at MTV in so doing. Read along after the jump.
A bit of clicking around reveals Chicago's favorite daughter Kid Sister doing a similar thing at the Fools Gold showcase
our Amy Phillips told you about yesterday,
and John Norris going wild for "new queen of indie rock," Celebration's
Katrina Ford.
Don't miss Pitchfork's own dispatches from CMJ,
which continued today and will run through the weekend.
As for Deerhunter, they just revealed their finalized schedule for
2007, which finds them more often than not in Europe.

Ars Technica reports on a request by the Federation of American Scientists to support videogaming in education through government grants. The request comes via a report stating that gaming promotes higher-level thinking, and may eventually give students an edge in the modern global workplace. From the article: "The panel determined that there are, in fact, skills learned by video games that are of value to today's employers, including 'strategic and analytical thinking, problem solving, planning and execution, decision-making, and adaptation to rapid change.' Additionally, they found that video games foster goal-setting, practice in patience, and even team building. Carefully noting that there is a difference between video games developed for entertainment versus education, the FAS's report says that an emphasis in learning in video games could greatly benefit future generations of workers."
