We've seen some rather interestingmouse mods in our day, with some admittedly being more worthwhile than others, but an engineering mind over at LushProjects has definitely raised the bar quite a bit with his latest. Dubbed Three Blind Mice, the project consisted of two waves and more work than he ever expected, but yielded a very successful six axis (not that SIXAXIS) controller to use in 3D graphics applications such as VVVV. After realizing that panning and shuffling around camera angles with a 2D mouse / keyboard tandem was wasting entirely too much of his life, he embarked on a journey to "run three threads round three rollers from old mechanical mice." After realizing that Windows wasn't exactly keen on making things easy, he diverted his efforts into connecting the mice to the PC via an AVR microcontroller connected to the serial bus. By adding weights to an "opto-mechanical mouse with two horizontal rollers," as well as mounting a shaft and shaft-encoder through the middle of a mouse, he was able to realize all axes and utilize "mind bending math" to translate the mice data to on-screen orientation. Since before the launch of Xbox 360 in late 2005, Screen Digest has tracked multiple data points regarding every single packaged retail title confirmed for 256 bit home console platforms. This article does not contain all the data from the Study but does highlight some key points for the console sales for Holiday 2007.
Key findings:
? With around a year less in the marketplace, Nintendo Wii will offer customers a games library with just twenty less releases than Xbox 360 has managed to generate in twice the time.
? Vigorous third party support and new releases of their strongest franchises in Super Mario Galaxy and Halo 3 will drive games sales for Wii and Xbox 360 in Q4
? PlayStation 3?s release pipeline is muted by comparison despite a pared down version of Gran Turismo, new IP in Uncharted and possible hardware related announcements before year end.
? Publisher commitment is shifting to Wii with eighty six releases in Q4 compared with forty seven for 360 and thirty eight for PS3. Of Wii Q4 releases over a quarter are exclusive to the platform, compared with eight for Xbox 360 and five for PS3
? With the most abundant development resources in the industry, publishing giant EA leads the way into the Christmas shopping season with the most releases scheduled for Q4. Ubisoft and THQ follow.

Post-apocalyptic online shooters are all the rage these days. 2007's Enemy Territory: Quake Wars will pit scrappy humans against vicious cyborg invaders; Frontlines: Fuel of War, meanwhile, envisions a resource-starved planet struggling over the last remaining drops of oil. Those titles will have some catching up to do because Battlefield 2142 is first to the fight. The game is like a shot of adrenaline when compared to last year's sleepy Battlefield 2, but it doesn't leverage its futuristic setting to maximum effect. In short, it's a good game, but not a great one.
