The internationally award-winning ?Halo 3? multiplayer experience is about to get even better. After launching to incredible acclaim and fanaticism, ?Halo 3? players will be able to enjoy three all new multiplayer maps on Dec. 11 as part of the Heroic Map Pack, the first in a series of downloadable content from Bungie Studios to come via Xbox LIVE.

As most of us expected, Robert Zemeckis's second motion capture CGI flick (after the family flick
The Polar Express)
Beowulf took the gold crown at the box office this weekend, but the $27 million total from 3,153 screens ($8.7k average) might not be enough to push the $150 million budgeted flick into the black domestically, although worldwide totals should prove to be profitable.
The bigger question, though, is has Zemeckis revolutionized film with this new technology?
Max Brenn reports for eFluxMedia on November 18:
"One year! One year was enough for Nintendo Wii to become the leader of the video games consoles market. Launched in November 2006 Nintendo Wii didn?t seem to be able to get through Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3?s rivalry, due to its inferior technical specifications.
But Nintendo Wii had a good price and an innovative gameplay and only one month after its release, it went atop the hardware gaming sales charts.
It?s true that there are still two months until the end of 2007 and many surprises could still appear, but it is unlikely that Wii?s position will change in the next period..."
Brenn discusses Sony's PS3 situation and Microsoft's preparation for the year's end and to more directly compete with Wii. In conclusion, he writes:
"Practically, at the moment Nintendo Wii doesn?t have a real rival to compete with, except itself... The US market is expected to absorb as many consoles as Nintendo can ship here, which means that Nintendo Wii will top again the gaming hardware charts."
And for his next trick he is going to wear this beehive like a hat

Crysis is the name of the game and, for this game, that?s pretty much all that?s needed for the introduction. The name alone communicates all the various levels of hype, scepticism, awe and pant-fillingly beautiful gameplay and graphics to anybody with even half an interest in computer games.
The latest effort from Crytek, Crysis is the spiritual successor to Far Cry and once again puts PC gamers on the edges of their seats as the battle through the most graphically lush game ever put together and fight both aliens and Koreans in an effort to save the world.

Review:
You might want to remember the name Amy Adams. It's star-is-born
time for the Colorado Mormon, who won a supporting-actress Oscar
nomination for 2005's Junebug, which few saw (dumb move).
Enchanted has the makings of a supersize sugarcoated hit,
and Adams is just the spicy princess you want to take home and
PG-love. Not since Julie Andrews rode an umbrella to glory in
Mary Poppins has Disney given us such a real-life doll.
Actually, Adams' Giselle starts off as a cartoon, a princess who
finds her prince (James Marsden), only to have his bitch-queen
mother (Susan Sarandon) banish her to hell. That would be Times
Square, where the characters take on flesh and blood. OK, it's
corny. Script contrivance, thy name is having Giselle take refuge
in the Manhattan apartment of a McDreamy divorce...

It looks like the new Quantum of Solace game for the Xbox 360 has a little something extra bundled in with the package: according to reports, an explosive 48 hour Xbox Live Gold trial membership card with a secret "Netflix code" on the back is included. Nobody seems particularly stunned to hear that the companies plan to aggressively push the streaming movie service when the NXE goes live on November 19th, though no other details of the trial have emerged yet.

William Friedkin's
Bug, which garnered passionate reviews (both good and bad) after its Cannes premiere, has been pushed back from its scheduled December 1, 2006 opening to an unknown date in 2007, according to sources at
Lionsgate. Apparently, the film was being prepped for Academy screenings before the decision was made. No official comment has been made, but it's highly probable that the studio has no idea how to handle this potentially disturbing film, based on Tracy Letts' play about a disturbed war veteran. Friedkin won a Best Director Oscar in 1972 for
The French Connection and subsequently helmed one of the all-time box office champions,
The Exorcist (1973). But the consensus is that his career since has been a tailspin, and that
Bug might be his comeback. Says Kent Jones in the July/August issue of
Film Comment, "Hurricane Billy has churned out a lot of crap in his 40-year career, but he has about five or six triumphs, and this ingenious and truly disreputable film is one of them."

Castlevania is going online in Portrait of Ruin for the Nintendo DS, and we checked out the new multiplayer features.

Pengupop is an online multiplayer clone of
Frozen-Bubble/Bust a Move. The purpose of the game
is to shoot colored balls so they form groups and
thus fall down. Any balls that fall down will
reappear on your opponent's playfield as a
side-effect.

Changes:
Hostile balls now appear at a maximum rate of 10 per second, and not before they have fallen out of your opponent's screen. Connection issues when playing against other people on the same NATed network have been fixed.
For all their gripes about Far Cry 2's shortcomings, IGN can't help but applaud the rich vein of innovation that runs through so much of the game. Unfortunately, it's these failings that defined their experience of the game, though for anyone keen to sample a shooter that dares step into the leftfield they recommend endeavouring to get to the heart of what feels like an uncut diamond – rough-shorn but not bereft of value.

Ripten:
"The recent controversy surrounding Sony's decision to delay the release of LittleBigPlanet, over a Qur'an reference made in one of the tracks, has many gamers flexing their memory muscle in an attempt to illustrate a double standard.
The belief is that Sony's 2006 decision to essentially ignore the Church of England's request asking for the removal of the Manchester Cathedral from their Resistance: Fall of man game, paired with the company's recent willingness to comply to the perceived wishes of a Muslim community, demonstrates favoritism."
Ripten's Chad Lakkis proceeds to explain why he thinks a business bottom line, not favoritism, is the reason behind Sony's decision to fight the Church of England and appease the offended Muslim gamer.

The concept behind VinylDisc is valid, that there are people out there who want to hear their music in pristine digital sound, yet are still drawn to the eclectic analog nature of Vinyl, yet want it all on one disc. And they've even found a band who wants to try it out. British rockers, Fightstar, will be the first band to use the odd format. However, the downer is that the vinyl side only holds 3-minutes worth of audio. 3-minutes! So lets get this straight, we get another new format with two outdated audio sources, and they still have the cajones to tell me that the cool part only holds 3 minutes? Next! There are so many pilots made each fall that I guess CBS didn't want to go with the show about zombies that come back from the dead and have sex with the living.
But that's pretty much what Babylon Fields was about. It starrred Kathy Baker (Picket Fences), Ray Stevenson (Rome), and Amber Tamblyn (Joan of Arcadia) and was a drama set in a small town. The dead came back to life and the living had to deal with various problems that ensued (though apparantly erecticle dysfunction wasn't one of them - that must be an odd episode). Oh, and it's also a crime drama, with the sheriff solving crimes each week!
