Tuxedo Jack from the Something Awful Forums lost his 60" projection TV this weekend to a flying Wiimote. Here's his story:
"We brought the Wii home and played it pretty much nonstop for the past 24 hours. At 12:10am, during a slower couch-sitting game of Wii Sports: Bowling, my Nintendo Wii got angry with me. My buddy Troy reels back to roll his ball as he's done about 300 times tonight and suddenly feels the controller slip from his hand. (THANK GOD for the wrist strap right?) Nope. Wrist strap snaps. The Wiimote flies across the room impaling my 60" rear projection TV square in the upper left corner. Be warned: Sweaty hands + faulty Wiimote wrist strap = broken ass TV."
He believes the incident may have only busted the outer glass, but it appears the man is TV-less at the moment. Any other reports of flying Wiimotes out there, either by faulty wrist straps or over-excited movements?
The Sega Genesis may well be the greatest gaming platform, ever. Who cares about online gaming, does anything beat a session of Sonic 2? Tec Toy knows the Genesis console rocked, so they are shrinking it and making it kinda pocket sized.
The device, packed with retro gaming orgasmic material, will retail for around $100, but will only be available to those lucky Brazilians. The twenty games that are loaded on will include Alex Kidd, Golden Axe, Ecco and obligatory Sonic titles (among others). It is not all good news though; there is no way to add new titles, $100 is a little steep and you could probably get an emulator to carry out a similar task. What the hell, these novelty devices cannot but help to put a smile on our faces, and a little cheer in our cynical souls. We'll look past the non-rechargeable 3 x AAA batteries included and dream of all the good times, when we were 3"0' tall and battling a blue superhero hedgehog through the Green Metropolis. A blue superhero hedgehog...how high were they? [Retro to Go]
Three New Classic Games Announced
Segment of the Interview:
CVG: What are you working on at the moment with Fallout 3?
Hines: We're working towards getting everything into the game. The world hasn't finished being built yet so we're still in the process of putting all of the content in the game, fleshing everything out and playing quests. That sort of thing.
CVG: Are all three versions of the game at the same stage of development?
Hines: For the most part. 360 is our lead platform. Our devs are just big fans of the dev tools available on the 360 and so that's our lead. But PC, PS3, 360 - they're all chugging along.
This is a team-based survival horror mod. Lead your team against wave after wave of horribly mutated undead and survive as long as you can.
This video just sort of makes you stare at the screen with your jaw gaping open and go, "What the?!" A girl in South Austin who knows nothing about gaming at all "heard that this was going to be good," and has decided to wait in line at a Best Buy for a PS3. The reporter asks "What do people do for a living in order to come out here and camp out?" Casey's extremely truthful reply, "I don't do anything, honestly ... I'm just doing it for the thrill. Something to get out of my usual ... you know." We have a feeling she was about to say "boring life."
The reporter accurately goes on to identify her as a girl, proving that there is still some top-notch news reporting going on out there, folks. She then goes on to say, "Us girls don't really fit into this environment with all this gaming." This is about as bad as the "math is hard!" Barbie doll, which we suspect the reporter probably owns and has propped up on her makeup mirror. Any female gamers out there care to issue some rebuttal smackdown to this reporter wannabe? Casey says all the guys in line have been really nice to her (mm hmm) by helping her set her tent up and take it down, and that friends have been bringing her blankets, gloves, and a beanie because it's cold out there. We wonder what she showed up in line with.
Anyhow, Casey, we truly hope this is everything you want it to be. If it's not, eBay can help you turned those failed dreams into some bling. We have a sneaky suspicion that's really what she's doing in line anyhow. Let's do the math: does nothing + heard it was good + not a gamer = look for this console to be listed at about 8:37AM central time on Friday.
"Those waiting in line cannot pitch tents until the store closes at 9PM ..." We can guarantee that there's some tent-pitching going on in that line. We're at less than 24 to go, and it's fanboys on high alert! Plus look, a girl!

Good news to Las Vegas, Milwaukee and Seattle residents. The elderly residents of San Diego aren't the only ones with fast mobile internet, as Sprint's just activated EV-DO Rev. A in your cities, allowing you to watch YouTube videos of monkeys urinating in their own mouths at 800-1000kbps instead of the old 153kbps you were puttering along with. I mean, c'mon, having the video pause half-stream in order for the rest to load really killed the mood.

Players of CD Projekt's hardcore Polish RPG The Witcher may not be hearing the whole story when it comes to the game's characters and quests. According to one of the game's writers, and a chorus of disappointed fans, The Witcher was heavily edited in its transition to the English language.
"Yes, it's true," said writer Sande Chen in response to the issue on the official Witcher forums. "My writing partner and I worked on the English adaptation of the script (based on the translation from the Polish script). It was edited down considerably, not because of censorship, though."

Joystiq's Law of the Game column uses the recently released LittleBigPlanet to address the question of intellectual property rights for user-created content within and for games. At this point, Sony's ToS claims a great deal of control over users' work, unlike Second Life's, which is much more permissive. GiantBomb has a related story pointing out creations within LittleBigPlanet that are copies of other games, and how they could lead to legal troubles for Sony if they aren't quick about taking them down.
In the mood for something truly awful? Still jonesing for horror now that Halloween's passed? Well, we've got the remedy for you. Constantine Maroulis of American Idol has a video diary in which he muses on the size of baseball stadiums, fluffs his hair, and pretty much spends the rest of the time mugging for the camera. Technically, it's a backstage glimpse of Connie preparing to sing at last month's playoffs showdown between the Mets and the Cardinals, but honestly, while the subject matter seems tame, it's as scary as anything you've seen from the Saw movies. To submit yourself to this masochism, click here. Beware. You may throw up. I did so twice. And that doesn't include the set of dry heaves I just experienced from merely thinking about the video.

Japanese DRAM (dynamic RAM) maker Elpida Memory and Taiwanese contract chip maker United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC) plan to work together to develop phase-change memory chip products, including PRAM (phase-change RAM), joining a growing chorus of chip makers using the technology.
The two companies will also work together on advanced DRAM production technology, they said in a statement late Monday.
PRAM is a speedy memory chip able to retain data even when power is shut off, similar to flash memory. The chips can rewrite data 30 times faster than conventional flash memory and are expected to have at least 10 times the life span. Several companies have formed joint development ventures around PRAM, and say the chips could replace several used in gadgets today, including DRAM, NAND flash, NOR flash, and SRAM (static RAM).
Elpida and UMC pledged to use their expertise in materials and high-performance manufacturing technology, respectively, to cooperate in PRAM technology development. They did not offer a time frame for when they may have PRAM products ready.
So far, two companies have announced phase-change memory products that could be out within the next year. Samsung Electronics, the world's largest memory chip maker, last year unveiled a working prototype of a 512Mb chip, and expects to have the chips available in early 2008.
Intel and STMicroelectronics are developing phase-change memory at their joint NOR flash venture, Numonyx. Intel demonstrated a working prototype PRAM chip earlier this year at its developer forum in Beijing.
Another major group of companies, IBM, Qimonda, and Macronix International, showed off a prototype PRAM chip that runs 500 times faster than flash memory while using half as much power to write data to a memory cell late last year. The chips would be useful in small devices where battery life is a worry for users, but production technology required for the fine circuitry of the prototype chip might not be around until 2015.
So far this month, two groups have made announcements surrounding phase-change memory.
South Korea's Hynix Semiconductorsigned a long-term licensing agreement with phase-change memory technology developer Ovonyx, and Taiwan's Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), in partnership with six Taiwanese chip makers, believe they could have a PRAM product ready within three years.
