NoMachine NX is a fast terminal server and desktop virtualization system based on the X11 protocol. NX is an order of magnitude faster than VNC or X11 and can run on bandwidth as narrow as 10 kBit/sec. In addition, NX translates and embeds the MS Windows Terminal Server
and VNC protocols into X/NX, enabling users to compress and accelerate remote Windows and VNC sessions. The NX project provides a suite of libraries and X11proxying agents implementing efficient compression and optimized transport of X11, SMB, IPP, HTTP, and arbitrary protocols like audio and video over the Internet.

Changes:
The new packages provide fixes for a number of issues, including those with NX and Fedora 8. Among them: SELinux may prevent NX sessions from starting on Fedora 8, NX Node may be unable to verify if the /tmp/.X11-unix exists, the X11 agent may crash during the font reconnection procedure, and incorrect mouse events may occur when running Java 1.6.0 applications in rootless mode.

First came
Jeremy Piven, who signed onto
Chappelle's Show writer
Neal Brennan's The Goods: The Don Ready Story back
in August. While it sounds like something Will Ferrell would head, he's just producing the film, which has Piven playing "a used-car liquidator hired to save a struggling dealership during a Fourth of July weekend sale." The pot was sweetened
last month when
Ving Rhames also signed on, as well as
Anchorman co-star
David Koechner. But what used car scenario is complete without the female guns?
The Hollywood Reporter has posted that
Kathryn Hahn has been tapped to play the lone woman in Don Ready's (Piven) team of used-car liquidators. In fact, THR describes them as "mercenary car salesman," which should be interesting for the comedy, unless the use of "mercenary" was just an outbreak of writer flair. Aside from playing Lily Lebowski on
Crossing Jordan for the past six years, Hahn has appeared in her share of cinematic comedy, which includes, not surprisingly, a role in
Anchorman. With Ferrell producing, and Koechner and Hahn signed on, which
Anchorman member will be next? There's a heck of a lot of great names to choose from -- Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, Fred Willard, Chris Parnell, Fred Armisen, Seth Rogen, Danny Trejo...

This guy's name is John, and he's been here since 8am this morning, putting him about 50 people back in the line. He might be 50 people back, but he's got more spirit that most of the tired and irritable
people ahead of him. Why, just look at that sweatshirt! I mean, he's even got a Super Famicom controller on there and he's wearing a Power Glove. Kudos John, kudos.
Why is he the second biggest fan an not the first, you ask? Well, the guy who is first in line has been here since last Thursday (with some of his friends and his infinitely patient wife taking over once in a while to give him a break). His name? Triforce. Look for an interview with him shortly. – Adam Frucci

Capcom claims they're only trailers.

Slingbox and Sony's Location Free TV have a Placeshifting competitor on their hands. And let's face it, Location Free TV isn't really competition to Slingbox, so really the question is, will Pinnacle have the balls to bring it to Sling?
This media streamer isn't HD, like the Slingbox Pro. It is wireless, and sends MPEG-2 over the home network, and MPEG-4 over the internet. For now, it seems as if it only works with PCs, while the Slingbox works with Macs, Windows Mobile devices like the Moto Q, and soon, Nokia devices running Symbian.
Let's see: Pinnacle has tons of experience in processing video, but very little in the networking game. Both are important when it comes to building a solid placeshifting gadget. But given the sometimes shoddy consumer equipment that I've seen out of Pinnacle, I doubt this will be a worry free setup.
So, the odds are in Sling's favor, but we shall see when the reviews roll through. Jump for another picture.

Difficulty level 5 movie quote for this Friday
The latest batch of financial results from Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo make for interesting reading. In this instance, however, the results reveal more clearly than ever just how different the business models and market positioning of the three players are.
What's arguably even more interesting, though, is the manner in which these results have been treated by the mass media - especially the business press. Being asked to commentate on the results for a couple of major news channels has granted readers an intriguing insight into just how the media perceives the current console race - one which it is following more intently than any previous development in this sector.
Despite Microsoft's success with the Xbox 360, the firm's entertainment efforts continue to be a footnote to the overall Microsoft story - with a profitable quarter for the Xbox division, driven by sales of Halo 3, being granted vastly less airtime than other developments such as the firm's investment in Facebook...

If you're not a Netflix subscriber and aren't interested in becoming one, please pardon
yet another post about streaming content from the formerly DVD-exclusive renter -- but for those non-Xbox owning, non-Live subscribing readers who want to get in on some HD Watch it Now action, we have some good news for you.
Earlier indications were that other Netflix-friendly devices would see updates enabling high-def support and now, in what appears to be an official confirmation from Roku's VP of Consumer Products, that company's
little $99 box will indeed be "delivering Netflix in HD by the end of the year," complete with a tweaked interface to suit all those extra pixels. Additionally, streaming here will operate over lower bitrates than the Xbox is expecting; good for those with iffy download speeds, but perhaps coming at the cost of quality. Finally, and teasingly, Roku devs are said to be working on "another major new feature" that will blow your mind. Oh, how we do love surprises.

Rob Lowe is returning to television, joining the cast of ABC's fall hit "Brothers & Sisters" for at least six episodes, reports Variety .
If you've made the switch from incandescent light bulbs to CFLs in order to be more energy/money efficient, one issue possibly plaguing your otherwise greener conscience is where to recycle it after it goes cold in about seven years, since it can't be recycled with glass bottles, thanks to its mercury content. IKEA to the rescue! They'll take old CFLs off of your hands for free recycling, which is useful given the big push CFL bulbs are getting from everyone from Wal-Mart to governments. Of course, the snag is that's only helpful if you have an IKEA somewhere in your general vicinity, but them's the breaks. [IKEA via Consumerist, Flickr]

Game Informer writes:
"For those of us that loved the original, Manhunt 2 is a trip that's worth taking, even if it's not nearly as memorable or enjoyable. While I applaud the series for it's uncompromising take on morality and violence, it's hard not to notice that recent titles like Mass Effect and BioShock have covered similar territory in a more mature - and much more enjoyable - fashion."
Take steady aim as you make your way through this snow-covered level.
Few games embrace their license's soul so well -- The Simpsons Game nails the show's trademark humor, in-jokes, and social satire, plus it features impressive cartoony graphics and the real-deal voice actors. This is total fan service, meaning Simpsons fans -- and apologists -- will be pleased. The standard-issue platforming and beat-em-up gameplay -- in co-op or player-swapping form -- though, is nothing special. Fortunately, an abundant collection of game parodies pepper the missions and give the game added personality that elevates it over its gameplay misgivings.

Electronic Arts has become known for the amount of downloadable content they've tossed on Xbox Live, most infamously charging for what were essentially cheat codes in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2007. Thankfully, however, that won't be the approach for their Tony Hawk rival, Skate.

(S02E04) A lot of commenters mentioned the change in Rita this season. I think it's understandable given what she went through with Paul, and then him dying in prison and her kids being affected so much. I think she maybe be finding she needs to keep her guard up more than ever now, to make sure she's doesn't make the same mistake again.

Answer: They are examples of average people taking over things that once only the experts controlled. With Wikipedia, it's information; with the YouTube debate, it's politics; and with PayScale, it's money.
