This new set of screen shots really show off the intensity and fear looming around every corner in EA's upcoming title Dead Space.

Asymptote is a powerful descriptive vector graphics language for technical drawing, inspired by MetaPost but with an improved C++-like syntax. It provides for figures the same high-quality level of typesetting that LaTeX does for scientific text. Asymptote is a programming language as opposed to just a graphics program. It can exploit the best features of script (command-driven) and graphical user interface (GUI) methods. High-level graphics commands are implemented in the language itself, allowing them to be easily tailored to specific applications.

Chalk another one up for MPEG-LA, as the licensing group's members have dropped lawsuits against Vizio stemming from the one-time value HDTV company's refusal to license MPEG-2 technology, claiming it's suppliers had

With the big election over, its kind of hard to picture how Saturday Night Live will get by without those endless Sarah Palin jokes. Based on last nights episode, it looks like the series will go back to a lot of the usual antics: A few political sketches, some great Weekend Update moments and lots of Andy Samberg sketches (some of which are hilarious while others make no sense at all).

He impersonates LL Cool J, Snoop Dogg, DMX, and Jay Z. Very Good!

[QUOTE]
GameDaily BIZ has received the latest monthly Famitsu marketing data service report for the period covering October 1 - 28. Although software sales fell by over 14 percent, hardware sales climbed 30 percent, resulting in overall industry growth of 2.2 percent.
The notable hardware news is that Microsoft's Xbox 360 has finally surpassed that of the original Xbox - within two years to boot. Through October 28 in Japan, the Xbox 360 has sold 474,000 units, exceeding the original Xbox total of 473,000 units. Famitsu said this was fueled partially by the arrival of the Xbox 360 Elite model (120GB, HDMI-enabled) on October 11. That said, Xbox 360 sold just 18,717 during October.

If you're looking for the biggest, baddest-ass mofo car stereo amplifier you can get, you might want to consider this 10,000-watt Warhorse from Kicker. The WX 10000.1 weighs a hefty 67 pounds, and that 10kW power stream is enough to slam-dunk you and your subwoofers with its highly refined power. You're not going to be able to install this in just any car, though, because it requires eight 12-volt batteries to get the thing going, and you'll also need two 200-amp alternators.
Sheesh. It'll not only break the windows in your car, but maybe every window within 50 feet of where were you're driving as well as the sanity of all those within earshot. Not only will you be first required to drop serious bucks on a car audio system worthy of such power, one of these amps will cost you a buck a watt—$10,000 total. Look at the monster specs of this beast:

It took a while to translate and localize, but
Final Fantasy XII is finally out in a non-Japanese form. Yeah, sure, some of you have been bragging about your ultra-super-advanced copy you've been playing for months, or the one you got lucky and
picked up from CompUSA last weekend, but for the rest of us -- we're just playing it now.
Is it the ultimate Final Fantasy experience? Apparently it's close enough, and the controversial battle system will grow on gamers.
- Gamespot (90/100) Purists be damned: "While Final Fantasy XII takes some liberties with the series' conventions, it sticks closely to most of the good ones, delivering another memorable and highly recommended experience in the process."
- IGN (95/100) Nothing but praise: "When does a game with momentous hype and anticipation actually live up to media, consumer, and competitor expectations? ... 'When you're playing Final Fantasy XII.'"
- Game Informer (93/100) The plot is the thing: "Led by a politically charged story that instantly seizes your imagination with riveting events and an extraordinary cast of characters, Final Fantasy XII rides onto the PlayStation 2 with its sword held high, delivering one of the year's most exhilarating adventures."

Theovon writes, "It's only been two days since the announcement of the official release of Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy Eft), and the fallout has been very interesting to watch. By and large, fresh installs of Edgy tend to go well. Many people report improved performance over Dapper, improved stability, better device support, etc. A good showing. But what I find really interesting is the debacle that it has been for people who wanted to do an 'upgrade' from Dapper (6.06). Installing OS upgrades has historically been fraught with problems, but previous Ubuntu releases, many other Linux distros, and MacOS X have done surprisingly well in the recent past. But not Edgy." Read on for the rest of Theovon's detailed report.

I mentioned these old commercials created by Jay Ward Productions (Rocky and Bullwinkle, George of the Jungle) over on our sexy sister site Ad Jab, but I thought you folks would enjoy them as well. It wasn't unusual for cartoon characters from television to appear in ads for cereal back in the day: General Mills used Rocky and Bullwinkle in their ads (I know for certain they were in ads for Cheerios, I'm sure there were others), and Kellogg's and Hanna-Barbera had a partnership as well (here's some examples, also from Ad Jab).
In some cases, however, entirely new characters were created specifically as cereal mascots. Jay Ward's studio helped create the characters Quisp and Quake, and the cereals bearing their names. Quisp was a nutty alien and Quake was a hardhat-wearing muscle man who lived in the center of the Earth. The two went against one another in a series of commercials in which they tried to convince the kids at home that their cereal was the better of the two.
Both Quisp and Quake were manufactured by Quaker, as was Cap'n Crunch, a character also created by Jay Ward's studio and voiced by the legendary Daws Butler. What's great about these old commercials is that, unlike today, the characters aren't just animated images slapped on the screen to catch a child's attention for a split second. They actually had continuing adventures, and the ads were engaging and fun to watch. Cap'n Crunch had his own ship, the Guppy, and an arch enemy named Jean LaFoot the Pirate. Of course, it was all meant to sell cereal, but at least some efforts were made to make these advertisements enjoyable. Clips after the jump.
By the way, you can still buy Quisp.

Michael Abbott writes:
"Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 may be the most fully-realized sports game EA has ever made. It has nearly everything I want in a golf game. Everything, that is, except a course designer. This glaring omission-the most requested feature for a decade, inexplicably ignored by EA-is really the only thing preventing this game from scoring an ace. Hey, EA: somewhere in that Spore/SimCity mega-toolset is a powerful and easy to use course designer just waiting for its place on the Tiger Woods 2010 menu screen. Make it happen."

In an interview with
Channel 4, legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto -- currently promoting
Wii Music -- lamented the current use of violence in gaming. "I don't want to curb freedom of expression but I am concerned that many developers focus just on excessive violence in order to stimulate people's mind," he said. "I believe that there are more ways of grabbing players' attention than violence alone."
Miyamoto also discussed cheaper hardware, noting, "Nintendo's mission is to improve and to take advantage of cheap technology to create reasonable and affordable entertainment." ... Nintendo against excessive violence? In love with cheap technology? Breaking news! Why doesn't Miyamoto put his money where his mouth is?
Oh,
nevermind.
Though we've rarely seen in a suit, Miyamoto's opinion goes a long way in shaping Nintendo's business philosophies. If there's one thing to take from this, it's that you shouldn't get your hopes up for a high-powered
Wii 2.0.
