The new MicroTrack II from M-Audio gives musicians everything they need to record music on the go. The handheld device features 2-channel WAV (BWF) and MP3 recording and playback and can copy files directly to CompactFlash cards or microdrives. There are also two 1/4-inch TRS inputs for your gear, 48V phantom-powered mic preamps, and drag-and-drop file transfer for both the PC and the Mac.
According to the manufacturer's site, the MicroTrack II is retailing for $399, which is certainly no bargain. However, I have seen it just about everywhere else for $299 — once again proving that shopping around on the internet is essential. [Product Page and M-Audio via macnn]

"Not many games deserve a full ten out of ten, but Call of Duty 4 isn't just a game. Call of Duty 4 makes it easy to see why gaming is bigger than the film industry now; its superb, topical touchy story is big screen material and I'm giving nothing away bar the synopsis - you're not fighting the Germans for a change, instead you're a member of the SAS and you're after a terrorist that would make Bin Laden look like Santa Claus by comparison, although I'd dread to think what Bin Laden would leave you under the tree if you've been naughty instead of nice this year. I highly doubt it would be coal! The whole story looks like it was based on real events. In a way, it could be. The story then is so heartfelt, brimming with so much emotion and courage that it makes you feel real feelings. I become attached to my superior, I sympathised with civilians and I thanked the Lord Bill Gates that none of this was real," writes Acegamez.

This is Ania. Ania may or may not love Halo 3, we'll never know! But when Polish lads mag CKM called, said they wanted her to frolic with the game, the 360 and its associated peripherals, Ania answered. With gusto. Verve, even. This Wiimote hack is one of the more astounding mods we've seen to Nintendo's pride and joy, but even more remarkably, it's really only taking advantage of the Wiimote's IR and Bluetooth capabilities to create what may be the multitouch mecca—multitouch without the touch. So would you wear little reflective rings on your fingers to have tactile control of your television screen? I would. In a heartbeat. And then I'd call Captain Planet to kick some ass when I'm finished watching 30 Rock. [youtube via hackaday] Thanks Jen!
Finally, a date for the upcoming Telepathe full-length! Their most recent EP, Chrome's On It, was released this October through IAMSOUND and featured remixes by the indie dance elect, including Mad Decent, Free Blood (ex-!!!), The Mae Shi, Bobby Evans (Brother Reade), and Frankmusik. They've been on the road with Diplo, Abe Vigoda, and Boy 8-Bit — a tour that I'm sure history will look back on as one of the fall's most bangin'-est, and probably the only tour of 2008 to prominently feature (...)

In BlackSite: Area 51, you frequently encounter load screens displaying "Combat Tactics" game tips. Never has an oxymoron been so apt; "combat" and "tactics" could not be more separate than they are in Midway's new alien-killing, conspiracy-revealing first-person shooter. This sort of dichotomy permeates the entire experience; BlackSite is rife with solid ideas which sputter and fail in practice. This is partially due to the buggy gameplay and partially due to some poorly realized game mechanics, but the game generally falls just a bit too much on the mediocre side of derivative to deliver a truly entertaining experience.

It looks like the folks at Sling Media have a few interesting things up their sleeves.
The folks over at the Sling Community have spotted a patent patent application that seems to indicate Sling Media has plans to enable advertising over your Sling connection. There are a couple of different ways the company could insert ads. For example, your Slingbox or SlingPlayer software could determine which batter is at plate during a baseball game and then choose a fitting ad to display on your playback window. Sling Media could also insert preroll advertisements or insert an ad at the end of a video.
Meanwhile, the New York Times reports that Sling Media plans to issue a software update within a month. Users will be able to pause, rewind, and fast-forward video using the SlingPlayer software rather than sending a command over the internet to your PVR at home. This should cut down on any lag time between hitting pause and seeing your video pause. It looks like the software update will also add the Clip + Sling feature we first heard about back in January.
And in related news, Applian Technologies has launched At-Large Recorder 2, which supports recording video from SlingPlayer. In other words, if you're using a SlingPlayer to stream video from your TV over the internet to friends or relatives in another house, time zone, or country, they can record and save your video. The software works with any version of the Slingbox. There's a free trial available, but a full version will set you back $50.

We've seen criminals use technology in their favor, but this is one of those cases where it works against them. He then posted the video on YouTube and got busted by the cops, which let him get away with a "caution." We woulda fried him and posted that on YouTube. Video after the jump.

Perhaps the eleventh full-length album from Gene and Dean Ween, their first in four years, is called La Cucaracha ("the cockroach," in Spanish) to reflect the band's surprising longevity. It's astonishing that any group can spend 23 years getting to do exactly what they want to, and while Ween's scattershot approach means that not all of the people will like their material all of the time, it is oddly inspiring in its consistent inconsistency.
Unlike some of Ween's albums, there's no concept running the show on La Cucaracha. It's just a grab-bag of this and that, some of which works and some of which doesn't. "Learnin' to Love," a stompy, twangy bit of nonsense, harks back to 12 Golden Country Greats, while "Lullaby," a piano-driven ballad touched with strings, could be their tribute to Randy Newman. "Your Party," for which the duo managed to snag David Sanborn on sax, is yacht rock that moves beyond parody into actually embodying the genre.
Viva Laughlin, the dramusical starring Lloyd Owen and Hugh Jackman as casino owners, has already gotten the power-boot from CBS after only two episodes. I?m not against musical shows, in general, but unfortunately, I can?t recall a single one that?s worked, including 1990?s short-lived Cop Rock from Steven Bochco.

Sony: On some occasions, scan lines may appear on scenes where brightness changes drastically, due to the hardware features of the new LCD device on PSP-3000. Installed with this new LCD device, PSP-3000 offers more natural and vibrant colors on its screen, but the scan lines have come out to be more visible as a result of improving response time to alleviate the afterimages on PSP-3000. Since this is due to hardware specification, there are no plans for a system software update concerning this issue.

As reported by GamePolitics and other outlets, an early PS2 build of Manhunt 2 was leaked onto the Internet last month.
For its part, the gaming community seemed to take the news in stride. It was, after all, not a finished product, only one of several planned versions, and not accessible without some extra effort and technical knowledge. Great Britain?s Sky News, however, jumped on the story in a big way today.
Despite the sensationalism, GamePolitics did extract one kernel of what is believed to be new information from the Sky News coverage: "[Rockstar Games] accepts the game was leaked onto the web by an employee of a different company who had access to the preview copy. That person has been sacked."
