The big-screen adaptation of James Ellroy's noir novel White Jazz is gearing up for an early 2008 shoot with George Clooney starring and Joe Carnahan directing. It has been confirmed that the film will include the character of Ed Exley, the LAPD detective played by Aussie actor Guy Pearce in 1997's L.A. Confidential. The rumor mill has strongly suggested that Pearce was being wooed to reprise the role in White Jazz, but the actor himself played down the possibility while doing press yesterday in New York City for his new release, Factory Girl. IGN was in attendance for the film's press conference. "It's been mentiond to me, yeah. I haven't read the script yet, so I'd kind of have to base it on that. Yeah, a difficult question to answer at this point," Pearce said. He added, "I ultimately don't really feel hugely compelled to want to revisit any character that I've played before neccessarily, but having said that it would purely depend on how it was realized, I guess

The two episodes were temporarily Xbox 360 exclusives thanks to a little encouragement on Microsoft's part -- $50 million worth, to be precise. That deal appears to have run its course, however, and with all the talk of lower-than-expected sales of the expansions on Xbox 360, it shouldn't be too surprising to see them turning up on other platforms.

The LibMsgque Project is an infrastructure for linking applications together to act like a single application. Work is distributed from one application to another using network or local sockets. The framework handles all aspects of setting up and maintaining the link in addition to starting and stopping the different applications, starting and stopping the communication interface, sending and receiving packages, reading and writing data from or into
packages, setting up and maintaining the event handling for asynchronous transfers, and propagating warnings or errors.

A-Data was showing off this 128GB 2.5-inch solid-state drive in the back rooms of CES, and finally a picture of the largest-capacity SSD in the world has surfaced. Not much is known about it except that it's a SATA II drive and might be shipping about six months from now.
The biggest unanswered question: How much will it cost? Anybody have a guess? Take a look at another pic of the other side of this drive:

Remember that yeast-and-sugar-powered generator from Dr. Cedrick Ngalande of Malawi we spotted a while back? Ol' Ced's back with a video of the system in action -- and an explanation of how it works, to boot. Just as most of you guessed, the system is powered by the yeast / sugar mix giving off CO2, leading to a pressure imbalance which tips the center of gravity and causes motion. What most of you didn't guess, however, is how freaking slowly that would happen -- check out the video after the break, and then wake up and wipe the drool off your face, slick.

Epic's partnership with Microsoft has definitely helped push the Xbox 360 as a hardcore powerhouse, and made Marcus Fenix and the Gears of War franchise synonymous with the system in the process. But high-profile analyst Michael Pachter believes Epic would ultimately prefer to be branching out instead. Appearing on GameTrailers Bonus Round, Pachter said, "I think the Epic guys can't wait until they can start doing multiplatform games."
Asked if he think Gears will go multiplatform, Pachter clarified. "I don't, I think Microsoft has a contract to make sure they get that sequel," he said. "But I think Epic regrets signing that contract. You're up to 11 million PS3s in the U.S. and probably similar number in Europe, you got a 20 million addressable market with a game like Gears of War. I mean, that thing would easily sell 3 or 4 million on the PS3, that's a lot of profit. No way is it worth it."
This should all be taken with a pinch of salt, given that it's simply Michael Pachter's speculation instead of any inside word from Epic. At the same time, Pachter essentially argues that first-party titles will be the ones getting exclusivity while third-party exclusives are on the way out. That may very well be true, as developers are now growing more experienced and comfortable with developing for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 simultaneously. And because of that, we may see Epic's next franchise going to PlayStation 3 as well.
Okay. I’ve heard the title before. I’m vaguely aware that the show...

Glitter is so overrated.
...are director egos getting too big?
by J.A. Hamilton
LetÂ’s be real for a moment, when it comes to films, there arenÂ’t many totally original ways to go anymore, which in my opinion challenges writers and directors both creatively. So for me, itÂ’s not so much the original ideas IÂ’m looking for lately, itÂ’s the way with which we present these ideas that count. Give me empathic, real characters with...

It's the international version, so you probably won't be able to understand the voiceover -- but what the heck, it's "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li," so who needs a narrator?
From Oprah's surprisingly low-key farewell to the year's most soul-crushing break-up on "The Good Wife" (Kalicia, no!), the year was packed with fantastic hours of television -- pretty much all of which we watched. There were teary goodbyes ("Friday Night Lights's" Texas forever! "Smallville's" tights and flights!), tense face-offs (why can't all CIA interrogations take place on the front porch of a cabin, like on "Homeland"?) and of course we made room for a little "Glee" (because certain underdogs deserved it).

For the third year running, MTV is picking the 10 great ? perhaps 10 greatest ? moments in games for 2007. This is not a list of the 10 best video games of the year. They did that already. (See Alternative Sources.) Some great games, like "Super Mario Galaxy," don't even have a moment on this list.
But to celebrate the final GameFile of the year, and to keep a tradition that was started in 2005 and continued in 2006, here are 10 moments in 2007 games not to be missed.
