It was a very good year for Apple, which capped a strong Mac-adoption year with a holiday sales push that gives the company a record-setting 8% market share.

It's possible that in the coming months that security-minded computer professionals will finally have a conclusive answer as to whether low malware attack rates for the Mac are due to the platform's low rate of adoption. Some experts believe that as adoption rates rise, so will attacks.

An imminent release to Apple's Leopard operating system could be out as soon as tomorrow, according to a Web site following the upcoming release of Mac OS X 10.5.2.

Microsoft has devised a work-around that should correct bungled installations of the new Office for Mac 2008.

SATABeast XI will allow up to 42TB drives in a 4U rack enclosure, the company said. The device will ship in mid-March through Nexsan resellers and will cost about $1,200 per terabyte, said Bob Woolery, senior vice-president of Nexsan.
