PC Magazine: Apple Mac Mini Review

 PCMag.com writes:

"Compared with systems like the HP Slimline 3200 series, the Mac mini is much smaller and has the benefit of being both a Mac OS X and a Windows PC. The HP Pavilion Slimline s3020n PC does have larger hard drives, optional internal TV tuners, and also works with MCE extenders like the Xbox 360. Look for more compact systems to start muscling in on the Mac mini's turf as 2008 unfolds.

The Apple Mac mini continues to be an energy-efficient computer as well as a design statement. It's an attractive alternative to Windows Vista PCs, even those with small form factors, since it's a visual, technological, and spiritual match for the iPods in millions of pockets worldwide. It's worth putting on your short list."

The tragic tale of Anna Nicole Smith, a woman who?s life often appeared to be moving too fast for her to handle, doesn?t seem to be slowing down. An investigation of her hotel room has not revealed any illegal drugs, only prescription medicines. Nothing unusual was observed on hotel surveillance tapes, and there was no evidence to suggest a homicide.

Konami shuttled L: The ProLogue to Death Note into Japanese stores on Thursday, but they kept the ultimate Death Note fan package as a Konamistyle exclusive. The Konamistyle bundle comes with a DS Lite jacket, touch pen, poster, two movie tickets, nifty ticket holders plus the game.

Of course, this package costs 55% more than buying the game alone. Be wary about importing this package for the gear: the tickets are only good in Japan! Unfortunately, Konami isn?t selling any of the other L branded gear as individual items.

Second trailer for the documentary Favela on Blast, which screened at the 2009 SXSW Film Festival.

For 20 years, a subculture has emerged under society's radar. Favela On Blast tells the stories of sex, love, poverty and pride for Rio's marginalized people. They have their own language, style and heroes. Like the city itself, it's a music that's fast, heavy and violent. This film is a glimpse into the lives of charismatic people who relate to the funk music as a metaphor for the subculture itself.

Then the whole mess went through the X-ray machine, destroying the footage and requiring the show to reshoot scenes. Apparently the warning labels urging security not to X-ray the canisters didn't get the job done. The state's film office and the airlines have worked together to prevent future mishaps.

The loss was covered by insurance, and producers say that they are still on schedule, which is fortunate. There might be a revolt if they went back on that sixteen straight weeks promise after all the promotion it received. I'm hoping that instead of the costly reshoot, they blew the insurance check on booze and hookers and went with a crafty team of Korean animators to fill in the lost scenes. That's just nutty enough to work.

[ via tvtattle ]

Permalink | Email this | Comments
