After last Friday's PS3 launch, the world (Sony's idea of the world that is) finally got a taste of what the PS3 is ultimately about. With the ho-hum reception the system has been getting over the weekend, analysts around the world can finally get an idea of how the next gen battle will shape up. Credit Suisse, an ultimate non-fanboy (if they chose wrong, they can stand to lose a lot of money), has decided to upgrade Microsoft's (MSFT) stock.
Credit Suisse cited Microsoft's improving position in digital entertainment as a key reason why they chose to upgrade the stock to "outperform" from neutral; Credit Suisse expects Microsoft stocks to improve by 20%. Digital entertainment -- officially known in Microsoft as the Entertainment and Devices Division -- includes the Xbox 360.
While we can only postulate what part of digital entertainment is responsible for the upgrade, the Xbox 360 leads the pack; it is singled out in Microsoft's annual report as the key reason why the division posted more than $1 billion in revenue growth fiscal year 2005 to fiscal year 2006. Could the lack of post-launch PS3 love be the reason Microsoft is getting the thumbs up from a major financial institution?

Dizzy is a symbolic icon of childhood promise and innocent adventure - a mascot of the 8-bit age and a character whose fantastic yarns have become a glistening thread woven through the fabric of gamer's lives. For many, that thread is at its most refined during Fantasy World Dizzy, and Philip Oliver stopped by to tell Eurogamer all about it.
"We'd love to create new Dizzy games, at some point." says Philip, not at all perturbed at this rather insolent, and over asked question. "As for the style, it would depend on the platform. 2D works best on handhelds while we'd have to go full out 3D if we were producing boxed console games. I guess the Amiga 2D games could just about work on XBLA. We've talked about this with Codemasters over the years, but nothing's yet been concluded."
In yet another sign that the entire media industry is completely Obama-dependent, the President-elect's magic touch is being felt in book sales. Obama's mere mention on Sunday's 60 Minutes that he was reading a book about FDR without "specifically naming a title or author," reports the New York Times, caused all hell to break loose. Which book could it be? Publishers have gone insane, re-printing FDR books that they'd published and scrambling to see if theirs was really the book that Obama had mentioned. He's being compared to the new Oprah for his new influence on the book-buying habits of middle America, which is normally hard-pressed to read the back of a cereal box. Can a Presidential Book Club be the bailout the book industry is looking for?
The publishers and authors of at least three such books that could fit Mr. Obama’s description each spent much of Monday wondering whether they had just gotten a plug from the soon-to-be leader of the free world.
The actual books—Jonathan Alter's “The Defining Moment: F D R’s Hundred Days and the Triumph of Hope” and "F.D.R” by Jean Edward Smith, have seen a big jump in their Amazon rankings already.
Alter's book is #277 in all books and #2 in nonfiction politics, and Smith's book is now #459 in all books and #2 in biographies/memoirs. Even the book about FDR that Obama wasn't referring to, Anthony Badger's FDR: The First Hundred Days, has jumped to #838.
More proof that the entire world is depending on Obama to save everything, including the book industry.
Apparently, and this was news to everyone at Gizmodo, smoking is bad for you. To help break "bad" habits, we have the Coughing Screaming Ashtray.
In addition to its lung-inspired design, the $9.99 ashtray coughs and screams whenever a cigarette is placed inside. But we don't understand how that function promotes quitting smoking, as it seems more to deter the use of ashtrays instead. Maybe we need lighters that make fart noises, releasing large, noxious amounts of methane gas. Now that would make people laugh AND save lives. Get it? Farting is funny. – Mark Wilson

Welcome back to Jericho. Population: You! And a dozen others who are dumber than a box of hair. The Previously On Jericho scenes inform us that NUCLEAR BOMBS HAVE DESTROYED HALF THE COUNTRY! Um, haven’t we picked up on that by now? I mean, no one is tuning in to Jericho expecting to see a Biblical-themed sitcom. (What is the deal with Moses?!) Anyway, last week everyone became suspicious of the Shady Black Family that suddenly moved to town, Jake and Heather shared a powerfully bland kiss, Mayor McCheese went into shock, and Jake and Eric ran off to find him some drugs that would save his life and, presumably, his delicious sesame seed toppings.
Join Kris Foley, Hagan Mitchell, Stash, The Riv, Steve Lange, Greg Brewer, and myself as we take you along for the ride through Penticton and Kamloops.
