The rocky volcanic shores of Iceland could serve as a major location in the upcoming Star Trek prequel, reports Icelandic newspaper Fr?ttabla?i?. The Icelandic media seems to believe that Star Trek XI could be an even bigger shoot than Clint Eastwood's Flags of Our Fathers, which used the island's sandy black beaches as a stand-in for the Japanese island of Iwo Jima. All in all, the remote island nation provides some great vistas with a rugged and solitary feel — great for portraying various sci-fi environments, no doubt. Star Trek XI could become the first Trek film to have significant production take place overseas. In related news, writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman told the IESB.net website that a casting announcement should be ready by the time Comic-Con rolls around at the end of July. When asked about the rumors regarding Matt Damon and Gary Sinise, the two would not confirm or deny anything, but instead hinted that some big names were on the list of actors being sought.
