A disappointing game might not be awful. But there's a nagging feeling that, for whatever reason, the game just failed to live up to its potential.
5. Assassin's Creed It's got some fantastic ideas, an amazing graphics engine, tight controls, and some of the best animation that we've seen so far. So what exactly went wrong? A poorly judged interest curve is a bad start, with a slow beginning and intrusive tutorial. As the game goes on though, the repetitive mission structure begins to drag, and the game's lack of a decent stealth mechanic does little to help. Promising, clever, fun, but not all that it could have been and ultimately disappointing.
Two more instalments to come, says Crytek boss Cevat Yerli. Crysis a trilogy? Yep, according to Crytek boss Cevat Yerli the developer is planning two more games. Click here to read the full article Filed under: Culture, Nintendo Wii, Business Just one of the many launch day stories we have of the Wii being sold out:Buying a Wii on launch day (trying to) OR :"Why you can't get freaking anything without camping out until midnight anymore." As I walked into the Best Buy in Farmington, New Mexico, fifteen minutes after it had opened, I was greeted by two employees, who were repeatedly shouting, "WHEEEEEEEEEE!" over and over again. They were standing behind a table that had boxes on it, so I figured this was the right place, and walked over. "You sir, you look as though you could use a Wii hat," said the first one. "Why do you need a Wii hat you ask?" The second one butted in. They obviously had a routine going. "Good question! It keeps your head warm!" "It boosts your confidence!" "You can store games in it, all this and more." "You should pick up a Wii hat right now!" One of them said, lifting up one of the boxes he had at his table, which I could now see did not contain Wiis, but instead had Wii hats inside them. "Especially since we have no more Wiis in stock," the other mumbled very quickly. They went back to shouting "WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" as I shuffled back to my car. Asus says it newest smartphone, the P565, will sport a 800MHz processor making it the "fastest" in the world.
An anonymous reader writes "Saul Hansell from the New York Times spoke with Microsoft's J. Allard, formerly of the Xbox games division and now in charge of their push on Apple's captive audience with the Zune. Allard lays out Microsoft's media battle plan, highlighting their longterm goals for expanding beyond games and software. 'This service will at some point add more options for video and mobile phones, Mr. Allard said, without offering details. Actually, Microsoft has been quite successful selling video downloads and online movie rentals through the Xbox Live service already. This seems a bit too much like the initial plan for MSN. This new network would be the switchboard through which all entertainment content and communication flows. Pretty much everything else in the technology world now is revolving around open systems where the Internet, and some simple standards, are in the middle.'" Read more of this story at Slashdot.

The format war has been ongoing for over a year, and despite the fact there is no clear winner, Blu-ray has gone so far as issuing press releases in the past to declare itself victorious.
But it seems Sony has now realized it's not in the ring with a push-over, and winning the format war is not going to be as simple as the cocky Blu-ray camp has boasted it to be. Going into the all-important holiday season, Toshiba has been hawking its players for as low as $200 in the U.S., while the cheapest Blu-ray players are twice as much. Furthermore, Sony seems to be suffering from, er, Blu-balls, after Paramount Pictures announced it was going to put out to HD DVD exclusively.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Impact Films has picked up the heist action title The Akula Job, penned by relative newcomer Mark Distefano (Friends and Enemies). The film will be about a high stakes jewel heist that -- get ready for this -- has to take place aboard a moving submarine 600 feet underwater. I don't want to jump to conclusions about this one but, for some reason, the fact that the movie will be produced by the same people who brought us DOA and The Hole gives me this sinking feeling in my stomach. I wonder why? Add to that the fact that there is already a glut of heist movies on the go and the production seems a little unnecessary, not to mention downright silly. No casting announcements have been made as of yet, but really, when a movie is about robbing a submarine, does it really matter? [via ComingSoon.net]

Jack Nicholson as The JokerI think Jack Nicholson was kidding when he told MTV.com that he was “furious” that another actor was cast as The Joker in The Dark Knight, but that hasn’t prevented websites from running with the story.
In the interview, posted yesterday, Nicholson is asked, “What do you think of another actor, Heath [...]
In this report, IGN states:
"Sony Computer Entertainment has confirmed to us that its bruised PlayStation Network title Pain is slated for release around the end of this month. The hopeful date is November 29th, though as the company works to secure a worldwide release for the title, that date could slip back about a week. The game is centered around tossing your on-screen persona out of a giant slingshot and into various objects, people, monkeys and more scattered around a city. For extended coverage on the game, have a look-see right here."
